Unsinkable…
The call came out that a ship was floundering in an ocean storm. She was a mighty sailing ship but she still could not hold out for long. She had had her back broken, her masts had fallen and her captain was dead, giving his life to save a crewmember caught in the rigging before being washed overboard.
She did have all the electronic goodies, the ship to shore radio being her lifesaver. She had GPS, and radar and loran and chart plotters, but even with all this, she could not escape the wrath of this ocean storm. But as she had done thousands of times before she rode out the storm, hoping she would again win the fight against the sea.
But this time the sea was too strong for her to battle. Her lifeboats destroyed when her rigging did fall, she only had small rafts for her crew to use for safety. They would need them all if they were to see their homeports and families again, for this storm did come out of nowhere, no warning on the weather channel. Just a big blow, rain & ice pelting the deck, the crew caught unawares, the captain just settled down for a nap.
Just prior she was ploughing along through a calm sea,
when all of a sudden she was caught in this deluge. Where did it come from, was it sent from hell, why was this ship the target of mom oceans rage?
It was said that this craft was unable to be sunk, more pumps than could be counted, the hull made of wood with steel stringers, double hulled she was; she was a designers dream. Her glass was double thick, almost bulletproof, her masts bolted straight through with steel cables. Made she was to take what the ocean did throw at her. Named she was, “Unsinkable”, maybe that is the cause.
All ships that have told the public that they were unsinkable, even by God, have succumbed to mom oceans wrath. She could not allow any ship built by man to sail for long without taking away that right. The captain did go down with his ship and all hands beyond were saved, Nature is not that violent, she would never kill just to kill, not like man, not like the supposed civilization man has created.
The moral herein might be, do not name your boat anything that might rile mom ocean and mother Nature, they can be two mean bitches when they feel they have been wronged…
