Dear Jenna Aurora~
Hello there! I am so happy to hear from you again! Your letter made me smile, and it was so nice to hear from you again! I am doing well, considering the fact that I am facing surgery later on this month (it's been scheduled for either February 24th or 25th; it depends on the doctor's schedule; he's had a slew of surgeries as of late, and I am sure he is past the point of exhaustion!), but I will be going into the hospital like the 22nd or 23rd (and on Wednesday of next week, the 16th, I have my bloodwork done; if everything comes out okay, I will have the surgery). I am a little scared though, but I am sure that things will go well; I am putting it completely in God's Hands, and I am covered with prayer: I have a lot of people praying for me.
I will keep you abreast of the situation as things develop or more information becomes available; so stay tuned~ I hope this finds you in fine fettle, as they say; I hope Michael is well, too. Please tell him I say hello, and please tell him that I will be calling you sometime in a day or two (or maybe even tonight; I called Sikik Eegeesiak in Barrow last night, but I could barely hear her over the static on her phone line; she said it was because the auroras were out in full force, and it was making communication difficult). Hopefully I will have a better time with the reception tonight or whenever I call you guys!
The kids are well, but Barbara isn't: she has a nasty sinus infection. She woke up with a horrible headache and a bloody nose; and she was coughing. She sounded like a Canada goose honking! I got worried, so I took her to see Dr. Emmons, our children's pediatrician, and he said that it was a severe sinus infection. She is now on medication, and she has to stay home from school for the rest of the week, so she can rest and get over this. I really feel bad for her! Barbara has always had chronic sinus problems, and she has missed several days of school already because of it. But unlike her sister, Ronee', Barbara doesn't have asthma or allergies; but the sinus problems are bad enough! Thank God it isn't anything catching; or else I would have a whole house full of sick kids; that is one thing I do NOT need right now, especially since I will be in the hospital soon myself, having surgery on my back! I need to stay as well as possible and try NOT to get sick!!
I am working; but I am working less hours because of my back problems. I now work five hours instead of my customary eight or twelve hour long shifts, and I am off on weekends, which isn't too bad, actually. I can get a lot done; but I have to take things slower, and I have to make sure I don't aggravate my back than it already is. But it is nice sleeping in until 7:30 instead of getting up at 3 like I did when I was working at six in the morning! I get off at l:30, and I am home well before the buses bring the children home from their respective schools! I also can have dinner on the table by the time they get done with their homework or come in from playing if they don't have any schoolwork, and I can then get them bathed and to bed while Bill and I can now have some "private time" together. We can enjoy each other more now, and it is such bliss!
I hear it is cold there. How cold is it in Anchorage? Is it warming up any? Here it is rainy and yuck, really miserable weather; and my arthritis is flaring up big time, but I have a nice, roaring fireplace in the fireplace, and I am sitting on the couch, covered up in a blanket, sipping a cup of hot spiced cinnamon tea. My little Pomeranian dog, "Cajun Gold", is sitting on my lap, only making me warmer, and I am afraid if I get any more comfortable, I shall fall asleep! I am also typing this to you; do you know how hard it is to operate a laptop with a frisky, lively dog on your lap and trying to drink tea?? LOL Bill is at his job at Wal*Mart; he gets off at four today; today is his short day, and my father is in his room, just snoring to beat the band. I can hear him even with his door closed! Mamere', his wife (Therese), is running the sewing machine; she is always making some sort of "project" or a new outfit, if not for her, but for me or my husband or any of the grandkids; she just loves to sew or create! She also loves to paint or draw! She is quite the skilled artiste! I hope the weather is nicer there in Alaska than it is here at the present!
Well, Jenna, I know this is short, but I got to go; I have to get the snacks ready for the kids for when they come home from school. I will write more later. Take care, and God bless you and Michael! Wonderful story Karen, she sure does a lot, with such pain as she has suffering and having to prepare for surgery while still providing meals for the kids etc. Reminds me of when I did all that while raising my boys;-) Amazing what the body can take.You know that from your own experience,that's why you can write so well about it!;-)
