Marvella Johnson, the young girl who had a stroke, takes a turn for the worse and dies, much to the shock and disbelief of her mother, Eugenia.
I feel as though I have fallen into a deep sinkhole, and there is no way for me to get out. I feel as though I have stepped into a nightmarish void, and this all seems to be a horrible dream.
This is Eugenia Grace Johnson. If my name isn't familiar with you, well, I am the one who wrote about my daughter, Marvella who had a stroke on January 21, 2005. She was only 11 years old, and until that fateful day, she was a strong, healthy girl who loved sports and lived life to the very fullest. She sang every Sunday in the church choir at our church, Christ Community Assembly of God, and she was blessed with an awesome singing voice. Well, on the afternoon of January 21, 2005, she was doing the dishes, just as she always did after meals, when she suddenly grabbed her head, screamed, and passed smooth out onto the floor. I was the one who found her lying unconscious on the kitchen floor, and I immediately called 9-1-1 for an ambulance to come help my daughter.
Marvella was rushed by ambulance to Nashville Memorial Hospital, where she was then admitted and taken for a battery of neurological tests, and it was found that she suffered a premature stroke at the age of 11. The news was totally unexpected, and it was devastating for both myself and my husband, Marvella's daddy, Charles. We cried and prayed that things would improve for our daughter; but alas--they never did. She remained in a coma, and a few days before she died, she started having seizures when her brain started swelling. An inter-cranial pressure device was put into her skull, to measure the pressure inside her brain; but no matter what they did, the medical team just could not save our daughter, and she died yesterday afternoon of respiratory, kidney, and heart failure. She was all of but 11 years old, just a child on the verge of becoming a young lady.
Marvella was gifted: she was in the "Kaleidoscope" Gifted and Talented Program at her school, Eastview Elementary, and she had many friends, among them, Ronee' Le-Anne Reaux and Nicole Michelle Aldape, both, of whom, were in her class, and hung around my daughter. She scored straight A's in all of her classes, and people were in awe of her ability to learn new things in such a short period of time; and they were in awe of her talents as an artist and a singer. she made Charles and myself proud to be her daddy and mama, and we delighted in each accomplishment that she mastered. She was a child full of love, joy, and compassion, and she especially had an affinity and heart for people with disabilities; and she went out of her way to help them in any way possible. Her two friends, Ronee' and Nicole, were, in fact, both physically disabled, and yet she treated them like the kids they were, and they loved and adored her.
Now Charles and myself sit here, trying to come to terms with the fact that our baby is now with Jesus, and she will never be alive again. She is at peace, and she is in Heaven, and best of all, she has a new brain and body that was robbed when she had this monster called a stroke, and she is now a totally new Creature. She is now an angel, in Heaven, and she is probably enjoying all the glorious and wonderous sights that Heaven has to offer and is enjoying meeting her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, face to Face. She is happy, yes, but as for us, we are utterly devastated, and we are numb with grief as we try to cope with what has happened in our lives.
We will be making funeral arrangements for our daughter, and we will be contacting family members with the sad news about Marvella; and the days ahead will certainly be busy; but we must try to go on and try to persevere, even with all that has happened.
We will write again down the road; you haven't heard the last of us, Charles or Eugenia Johnson!
