Little Sri Lankan orphan, Rani Kalpana Kumaratunga, who is now recovering from a head injury, is now in an orphanage, where she is awaiting to go to her new adoptive family in America. The little girl is now learning English, and she is writing with the help of one of her teachers at the orphanage; she writes a letter to her new family-to-be.

Dear American Family~
This is your soon-to-be daughter, Rani Kalpana. I be looking forward to coming to America to be with you. I now in place for kids who be orphanage, many of them lost mommies, daddies, family. I sad for my friends, they know much sadness.
I now be learning the English, so when I come to you in America, I be able to tell you hello. I also be able to say "I love you". I cannot wait to meet you; I am very excited, looking much forward to that happy day when I come to America!
Please find picture of me in letter. I hope you like it. It taken other day here at orphanage. I am looking very much forward to being your little girl, I look forward to eating American foods..pizza, pasgheti, hamboogers, hot dogs, makaronee. I hear they good, maybe they be foods I soon like?? I look forward to learning better in my English, go to school, learn how write and read. I also look forward to seeing red, white, and blue flag, I think American flag so beautiful!
I like to sing, play simple games, draw, color, paint. But since I got hurted, I not do much this any more; but I will soon do so again as soon as I get better, no? What you like to do in America?
Well, I go now. It soon time for me to go therrappy, will write again. I hope to see you soon; I looking forward to being your child!

I feeling better, my walking getting better. I still no good with memory, but that will get better soon, I hope? You will just have to help me, help me good; I learn sooner or later to remember! Just be patient with me!
I have picture of my new family-to-be in America, show my friends here, show teachers here; they say I will have big family. I just hope I learn all your names; this may be hard for me!
soooooo precious Karen...I wish I could actually be 5 years old again, and maybe then I would have the say "mom? I need to be your daughter. Okay?" But this is a very wonderful letter, and you write them so well. Keep it up Texas Tornado. Did I tell you I have Texas blood in me. What a nice letter! How precious are little children! I sense the joy, hope and anticipation of this little one, who has undergone hardship and pain, yet, is excited and eager to experience a "new" home and family in a "new" country. Thank you for sharing this story. It melted my heart.
Now this has a lot of story potential...no problem for you though=0).

Our church has a letter from one of these precious children that will come to a family in our area. Her letters are full of bible stories told to her and she is nine a little darling girl. This is a very nice story.
