Diane Aguilar, Louisiana's friend in Del Rio, Texas, finally writes her friend a letter.
Wednesday, March 23, 2005, 10:24 a.m., C.S.T.~

Dear Louisiana~

Please do forgive me; I am so sorry for not writing sooner; but I have been ill, and I just got out of the hospital for a second time. Remember when I had the MRI tests back in December, to see what was causing the blinding headaches I had been experiencing? Well, they found that I had a tumor in my brain, and when they took it out and biopsied it, they found out that it was in the early stages of brain cancer. So I have had a time of it lately, and I have since lost all my beautiful, long brown hair; I am now bald as a cue ball, and it has been a very big adjustment for me. I have been sick and nauseated from the chemo and radiation treatments, and I have lost close to fifty pounds; I am now getting very skinny, and I just haven't really felt like eating lately. I also fell back in January, and I broke my knee, and I had knee surgery, so I have been hobbling around on crutches or using a wheelchair.

My husband is still waiting to get his disability, but they approved his disability, which will definitely help us out in the finance department. He should be getting it in a few months, and until then, we will just have to rely on friends or do odd jobs to try to raise some extra cash. The kids are all well, they are growing like weeds, and they will be off for Easter break (AFTER Easter, mind you!) starting Friday, which is, as you know, Good Friday. They will go back to school next Thursday. Rosie will be coming home from Austin, so it will be good to see her again; I have really missed her sunny smile, and I have missed her sweet presence around the house, and I know her brothers and sisters miss her too. They are always asking when she will be home.

I heard you had back surgery. I hope it was nothing serious, and I hope and pray you are feeling better by the time you get this. I know you have had back problems for years, and I hope that the surgery helped. You will have to let me know what happened and how you are doing!

How are your kids, and how is Bill doing? I hope and pray that everyone is well there! I am not well, as you know, but I am hanging in there, and I am happy to say that the rest of my family is doing better than I am at the present time! We also got a new dog, a little Pomeranian, that the kids have named "Little Red", and she is the cutest little thing: she is all eyes and fur, and she looks like a powderpuff with cat legs and pointy little ears! She is too adorable, and we just love her! She is such a happy little dog with a perky personality, and our cat, "Whiskers", is slowly warming up to her. He isn't too sure yet as to whether he likes our new puppy or not! They already got into it once: the dog was sniffing around "Whiskers'" water and food dish, and the cat, in his anger, reached out, and he smacked the dog right in the face. You never heard such yelping or goings-on in your life; our little puppy was acting like the cat had killed her, and she was running around, yipping her fool little head off! It was rather funny! LOL I guess the dog learned that it is not nice to mess with a 20-pound Maine Coon, especially if he happens to be in a foul mood! LOL You should see this: our cat is twice the size of our little dog, yet our little dog more than makes up for her tiny size, with her huge, high-pitched barking! She makes a terrific little watch dog! LOL

How is the weather there? I heard y'all had some wild weather last night! I hope you made it through the stormy period; we didn't have nothing here, thank goodness, but eastern Texas (and all points east) sure got smacked around with the wild stuff: tornadoes, heavy rains, large, damaging hail, the whole nine yards! Hope the storminess is gone, and hope the sun returns soon! I hate storms; and here I am living in Texas! Makes a lot of sense, hunh?? NOT! LOL

Well, I am going to try to eat something, I am getting a little hungry! I just hope my stomach will be able to handle it, I have had a time of it with nausea and vomiting lately, ever since I am undergoing these darn treatments, and my mouth is a mess with all these stupid sores! It is awful, and it is such a trial for me to eat! It's no wonder I am getting so darned skinny! I will write more later when I am feeling up to it! Until then, take care, and please keep me in your prayers; I really can use them about now! Thanks!

~Love, your (ailing) Texas friend, Diane Renee'. :(

I have two dogs. One i fell over in the darkroom Sunday--guess a black dog in a darkroom isn't a good idea. Anyway I went hurling toward the chemistry and almost fell into the developer with the picture. animals are nuts!!

Loved the dog and cat show. I have a monster of a cat myself who likes to get in dog faces, sit up on his haunches, and rapidly bitch-slap the canine race. He did this to a chow in public and the poor dog yelped and ran away in fear, with its feelings hurt. On my cat's part, I don't know if this is courage or mere stupidity. Anyway great read.
