Dear Louie~
Got to thinking about you today; was hoping that you are okay (or at least alive; it's been a while since I last heard from you!). Have you had the surgery yet on your back? If so, I pray and trust everything went according to plan; I prayed to the spirits for you so you could come through the surgery. I am sorry for not writing sooner, but Father has been very ill; he has cancer, and he is not doing very well now. He may eventually end up dying, that is how bad he is doing, and all of us are fraught with emotion and worry. Please keep our father in your prayers, he is in a bad way!
We have been running to and from the hospital to see Father, and it has been a strain on all of us. It is so hard to see him lying there in bed, looking defeated and sick, and he is getting so skinny it is frightening! But we kids are fine, but we have been spending a lot of time with Father, and it is really starting to take a toll on our minds and well being.
How is the weather there in the Lower 48? Here it is cold (but then, that is nothing new!), but nothing like it was back in December or January. It is starting to warm up some, and the days are starting to get longer, so it shan't be long before the sun is out for longer periods of time, and then, the summer solstace will be upon us once again, and it will be out for a good chunk of the day (and even a good part of the night!). The polar bears are out, looking for food, so I shan't venture out too far from my home, or else I will end up as nanuq food! :) Hope it is a lot better there; have heard on the telly that you have had storms there. I hope and pray you had no damage or no severe stuff at your place!
I am happy to know that Johnny and Barbara are coming next month. It will be so great to see Johnny again, and I am looking forward to meeting yet another one of your beautiful children! How did Ronee' do on her television show? I hope she won, or placed high! You will have to let me know how she did; I am all ears! I bet she was a hit with the audience with her lovely singing voice! She sings just like an angel! Tell the kids that I say hello, and tell Johnny and Barbara that I am looking forward to their visit next month! We will make sure we take care of them, and we will try our best to make their stay as pleasant and memorable as possible!
I am glad you are interested in Native Alaskan music. I will pick up some tapes and cd's next time I go to downtown Barrow, or maybe to Fairbanks. I will also send you a subscription to several Alaskan=themed magazines and also "Native Peoples", which is a magazine celebrating the Native peoples of America. I get this magazine in the mail, and it is highly entertaining and fascinating reading.
The lights are starting up here; we have seen some pretty auroral displays here already, but they won't get going until a few weeks from now (about the time Johnny and Barbara are due here, so they should have a celestial treat awaiting them!). I will also send you some information about some of the beliefs and legends surrounding the lights, and I think your children will find them most fascinating.
Thank you for explaining how to load pictures on the computer. I shall give it a go when I get done here; hopefully it will work! If not, oh, well..at least I tried! Let me know if a picture went on there, okay? Thanks! It does sound confusing, but I appreciate the effort in your trying to simplify the explanation of the steps for me!
Well, I am going to go. There is somebody at the door; have to see who it is. Hopefully it is Mattaq or one of my other siblings! They are worried about me; they are always making sure that I am okay. I am glad they care, especially now, since Father is so very sick! Just keep us in your prayers; that is all I ask! Thank you!

Sounds like Louie is going to get some interesting reading material in the mail soon. Maybe some photos of that wind, still of of it untamed, beautiful state of Alaska. Nicey done, Karen.
