Copyright © 2004 By Koty Lapid-- Another short story about a full figured woman. The story is also about a great concept... that is about 'Paying It Forward'.
"You're short, fat and ugly. You're my proof," Taylor shouted into the phone. I felt like I had been punched.

It had all started mid-week, when my roommate, Rosy, and I began preparing for Linda's birthday's party…. Linda was Rosy's best and oldest friend and they had known each other since kindergarten. The party was supposed to take place at a fashionable private club which was known for the celebrities who frequented it. This was the first time I had been invited to a club such as this. I liked both Linda and Rosy, and I heard so much about this club, so I could hardly wait to go and be among friends.

Linda told us that she really didn't want any gift from us beside looking great. Rosy decided to diet until the party, only drinking a special cocktail which consisted of a lot of minerals and vitamins. I couldn’t understand this, as she had a svelte, incredibly gorgeous body, which made me wonder why she had never considered modelling.

For me she chose a different kind of preparation. She knew I would not agree to stop eating until the party, so she arranged a day for me at a well known spa. There, I had a wonderful treatment: a facial, manicure, pedicure and a nice haircut. All of that pampering didn't make me taller or thinner, but I definitely looked better afterward. My skin looked soft and creamy. My haircut accentuated those joyous sparkles in my eyes.

The day of the birthday party arrived. After the guests had gathered in our apartment, we began to walk to the club. There we joined to a long line of people waiting to get inside. After entering, we could immediately see a mass of dancing people. We didn't stay there, we continued to the second floor which was decorated to look like a Beverly Hills Manison's living room. At least it looked that way to me. There were many small tables and very cozy sofas. We chose a nice place in the corner. I sat down and Rosy, together with Linda, went back to the dance floor, leaving me with their purses.

While I was sitting there, a guy came to the table and asked, "Would you like to dance?" I smiled. "I would but I can't right now. I have to purse-sit." He pulled out a chair. "Mind if I help you?" I nodded and my smile widened. He grinned in return. We talked for a few minutes and then one of his friends joined us. "What are you guys talking about?" Before either of us could answer, another friend of his sat down and propped his elbows on the table. Rosy and Linda walked up, surprised to see me sitting with three guys. They pulled up chairs to the already crowded table and we all talked. We stayed there until well after midnight.

I really enjoyed myself that night. When the place feels right to me, I feel good. I'm not insecure, as short, fat people are expected to be. People might like to hear that I feel inadequate, but I don't.

A few days later, while Rosy and I were watching TV, the phone rang. Rosy answered the phone and after talking for some minutes she handed the receiver to me. She told me that Taylor, the owner of the club we had been at a few days ago would like to talk to me. I got exited, and asked Rosy: "Why is he calling me? Is it for a date? Did I leave something behind?" "He'll tell you the reason he is calling for." - Rosy said and sit back to continue wathing TV.

"Thank God I finally tracked you down. I'm being sued for discrimination," Taylor said. "People are alleging I only allow tall, slender, beautiful ladies in the club. I need you to help me. You have to tell them that you were here. You're short, fat and ugly. You're my proof."

I felt like I had been punched. I may not be thin, but I have never been ugly. This man was so obviously shallow, he couldn't separate my body from my face. I would have loved to hear him say, "You are beautiful as you are, but my business is in trouble, and I need your help." But, kindness wasn't on his agenda.

In spite of his rudeness, I was willing to consider his request. I like helping people out. I had enjoyed being in his club, and was looking forward to going there again. Having people consider me short and fat doesn't bother me, so I answered, "Okay, I'll testify." After a long pause I added, "I will help you on one condition. You may say that I am short and fat, but you cannot say that I am ugly. Then, I will be pleased to do you this favour."

I held my breath while he pondered this for a few moments, then Taylor begrudgingly said, "Okay, I can live with that."

This is most disturbing and rubs me the wrong way. Not what you wrote but the fact that someone could actually be so horribly insensitive. You wrapped me up pretty quickly with this literary creation, Koty. Thank you. Love and peace to you. Regis

When people are desparate they don't always know what they have said. I think when the whole lawsuit is over, he might even consider you being beautiful because of your willingness to help him out after what he has called you.

Skin-deep beauty cannot be compared to the beauty that is inside a person. It's the latter that is becoming more beautiful as time passes.
