Johnny's observations about Pope John Paul II who recently passed away at the age of 84 1/2 of various health problems.
The world is very sad nowadays. The world is sad because a very important man has died, and because of this person's death, the world will no longer be the same.
I am talking about Pope John Paul II, who was the leader of the Catholic church for over 20 years. He was the third-longest serving pope, and he left a huge impact on people of all ages, all races, and all religions. People of all faiths and ages loved and respected him, and he met people ranging from the common man to world leaders, kings, queens, and presidents.
Pope John Paul II was born in a small village near Krakow, Poland, on May 18, 1920; and even from the start it seemed that he was destined for greatness. He was the first non-Italian person to be elected pope by the Catholic church, and when he was pope, he did his job well, even to the very end of his life.
As he grew older and frailer, people wondered just how long he could go on, and he proved time and time again that he was determined to do his pope-ly duties even as health problems set in. He had severe arthritis that affected his ability to move around, and he also had Parkinson's disease, which caused his hands and body to shake; but he refused to let his health problems keep him from doing his job as pope. He was the most-traveled pope, visiting countries such as Africa, the United States, Europe, Asia, and other places, and wherever he went, he drew a huge crowd; and people were moved by this gentle man of courage and grace; and they would openly weep at the very sight of him. I remember watching him on Spanish-language television a few years back when he went to Mexico, and it was obvious just how very well loved (and respected) he was. I often wished that I could have seen him in person, but I never did; still, he made a big impact on all people's lives, and he spread the message of peace, goodwill towards the poor and weak, and hope in a hurting world; and he also did it in his own special way. There will never be another pope like John Paul II, and he will definitely be missed by one and all.
God bless his memory, and God bless the Catholic people in our world as they mourn the loss of one of the most influential religious leaders since Jesus Christ!
