Dear Jeff~
Hi! I hope this finds you and the children well; I know this is a difficult time for you, with Louisa being in the hospital, but just know this: she is in a very good hospital, and she has the best doctors and specialists taking care of her. No, muscular dystrophy in ANY form is not easy to cope with, but DO know this: God is in control of the situation, and all you can do during this time is pray for Him to watch over your ailing wife, yourself, and the children, especially little Aerial.
How is Louisa faring today? Have you heard anything as to when she will be getting discharged from the hospital? Or is she to be in a while longer? My daughter, Ronee', got out a week ago on Saturday, and she is doing much better. In fact, she is hardly in any pain from her flare (she always does have some pain, in relation to her JRA, but on Easter, she flared, and on Monday, she was admitted to the hospital, and she was in for five days), and she is about back to her normal self again, thank goodness. And two of my children aren't home: they ("they" being Johnny and Barbara) went to Alaska for a week; they will be back this coming Saturday. They went to stay with a friend of mine, who, in turn, invited them to stay at her house, in Barrow, where she lives. So I have a break from at least two of my kids! LOL
I wish I knew what to say to you in relation to trying to ease your troubled mind about your wife being in the hospital, but I don't. ALL I CAN do is lift you, Louisa, and the kids up in prayer, and let you know that many people are praying for her recovery and release from the hospital. But even as bad as your wife may seem to have it, there is always somebody else who is so much worse off. In fact, Friday morning, while I was at work, I was checking on a patient, a woman in her 60's, who had an anaphylactic shock reaction to cider vinegar, and she is now in a coma, and there is the possibility of brain damage. When her husband found her, she was on the floor, blue, and she was unconscious. He immediately dialed 9-1-1 and called for an ambulance; and soon, the paramedics were working over her, doing CPR and trying to restore her breathing. They worked on her from the time they got there to when she got to the ER, and the ER team worked on her for a half hour. They finally got her back (much to everyone's surprise!), but she may be hopelessly brain damaged; and she is now in a coma; and for now, things don't look good for her. The poor husband has been beside himself, and he has been afraid to leave her side, for fear something may happen while he isn't at the hospital. It is really a very sad story, and it is also one of those freakish things that you hear about so often. This happened on Thursday, in the early afternoon, and the woman is still in a coma; and doctors have no idea as to whether she will ever emerge, or emerge unscathed. Right now, it doesn't look like she will because her brain activity is poor, and she has some delays in her reflexes, and she doesn't respond whenever we talk to her or pinch her on various parts of her body.
Whoever thought that something innocent like cider vinegar could cause such a catastrophic reaction in a person, but there are people who are allergic to things you can't even IMAGINE, and some people are so allergic that even being OUTSIDE can pose such a serious threat to their health; so they have to stay indoors or suit up in special "hypo-allergenic" clothing or else they could die or get extremely sick. Now, my daughter, Ronee', used to be allergic to trees, grass, pet dander (especially cats), dust, pollen, molds, strawberries, shellfish, milk or all dairy products, yeast, and so much more; but she outgrew all of these allergies, and now she doesn't get sick nearly as often. She still does have asthma and allergies, but her list of allergies is considerably less, and she is now only allergic to penicillin (or all cillins), stings from bees, wasps, hornets, or yellowjackets, as well as stings from fire-ants, and nuts. She still has some allergies to dust and molds, but they aren't life-threatening, not like the allergies to the insect stings, nuts, or penicillin. Even though Ronee' does have allergies, she still can go outside and play like any normal twelve-year-old child/pre-teen, and she knows to stay away from things that give her the most trouble, plus she has her inhalers with her, just in case she should happen to have an asthma attack. So she takes precautions, and she is old enough now to take care of herself; and she knows to get me if she should run into any trouble.
I don't mean to ramble on, Jeff, but I started thinking about this woman, and the fingers started flying across these computer keys, and here you go. I tend to do that; and I am sorry if I write about things that have absolutely nothing about the original topic of discussion! LOL Please do forgive me!
Has the weather cleared any in California? Here it is clouding up; we may have rain later on tonight, with the possibility of strong to severe storms. I hope not; I am not much of a storm fan! LOL But we DO have a safe room INSIDE our basement, so when it gets nasty out, we have a place of safety we can go to and wait out the storm until the "all-clear" is given. Spring here in Tennessee is so changeable: one minute, it can be bright, sunshining out, and the next, a rainstorm pops up, and then we are quickly scrambling for cover, so we don't get wet. I hope the weather has dried up there!
Well, Jeff, I will write more later; have to get ready to go on my lunch hour; it is slow here this morning, so I got this letter in. I only have that one woman patient who had the anaphylaxis that I mentioned earlier, so it is a pretty easy day for me, as far as "WORK" is concerned; but emotionally, it is an entirely different matter. I am a wreck, and I pray that this woman makes it! Take care, and God bless!
