Dear Rosie~
Hello! How have you been doing? I hope this letter finds you and your family in the best of health. Please forgive me for not writing sooner, but I have been unbelievably busy. Between working four days a week at the hospital (I work from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day, have done this since coming back from my back surgery, which was, I am happy to say, a success; I am still healing now as I write this), raising my brood, taking care of my husband (and my elderly father, who lives with us; he is in his later 70's now), and running children to and from doctor/therapy appointments, well, my free time is pretty well constrained. Also consider my book-signing appearances or author interviews, and you can probably tell why I haven't written to you in so long.
I have been wondering about you, too; so I decided to write to you, to see "what ya been up to". >grins<
How are the children? Have there been any crises or calamities in their lives? My children have (MOSTLY) been well (THANK GOD!), I am happy to say, but Ronee' was in the hospital for five days just after Easter (she had a JRA flare-up, but I am happy to say that she has since recovered and is now back to enjoying life), and Johnny had a "weak spell" a few weeks back (he has his good days as well as his bad days, in relation to his Duchenne's); but the others have been doing very well (KNOCK ON WOOD!). Speaking of Johnny, he and his older sister, Barbara, are now in Alaska: they are spending a week with my friend Sikik Eegeesiak, who lives in Barrow, Alaska, and they are having a wonderful time. (They called last night, but I could barely hear them, even with the phone turned all the way up!) They left for Alaska last Saturday, and they will be back THIS Saturday sometime (probably in the later afternoon or evening). I sure do miss them; I pray nothing happens to Johnny while he is up there because he is so medically fragile! He is presently on supplimental oxygen, and he has gotten so weak, and I can't help BUT to worry! But Sikik invited him, and he has been doing quite well, so I allowed Johnny to go to Alaska to be with Sikik.
How is the weather down there in Louisiana? Here it has been quite rainy, but yesterday the sun was trying to peek through the clouds, enough to fool us into thinking that the rains were moving on out; but alas..not to be..; it is raining here today, but the rains are due to move on out of here. There has been a very pesky low pressure system hanging around, so it has been quite wet around the Nashville, Tennessee, area as of late. Hopefully, the weather is much nicer (and DRIER) down there in Bayou Country!
I also wanted to tell you that we have added to the family! We have adopted two brand-new children from Sri Lanka into our family, and they are both so beautiful! We picked them up at the Nashville International Airport nearly three weeks ago, and they are gradually adjusting to a brand new life, a new land, a new language, a new home, and a new family. We adopted a baby boy, aged one year (Arjun Ravi), and a five-year-old girl (Rani Kalpana); and they are both so pretty! Arjun has the biggest, darkest eyes you can imagine, and the fattest little cheeks, and Rani is petite and shy in nature. Rani reminds me of Ronee' when she was younger, and it is as though I am looking at Ronee' as a child all over again! LOL Arjun is healthy, but Rani is still recovering from a coma and a severe head injury stemming from the deadly tsunami/earthquake that hit parts of the world the day after Christmas. She is now walking, but she is using a walker and is wearing braces on her legs, and she has since started physical and occupational therapies. Doctors are hopeful that she will recover fully from her injuries, but for now she needs some extra help. (Both children survived the tsunami/earthquake, but they lost their families; and it isn't known as to whether there will be long-term effects as a result of this disaster that occurred in their young lives. So they are TRULY "Miracle Children", especially little Arjun!)
I will write more later; have to check on a patient I am taking care of. She was bitten by a spider and had an amputation of her leg this morning; she is still in the recovery room, and I want to make sure that all is well with her. I also have to check on another woman who had an anaphylactic shock reaction to cider vinegar and is now in a coma; both at last check are not doing very well, but they ARE "hanging in there". Hopefully they are starting to improve. I will write more when I hear from you. Again, I am sorry for the long delay in my answering, but now you know why I haven't written. I hope you understand.
Your penchant for real life story telling is outstanding and you have been truly blessed with this gift. Two weeks of my poems would not add up to one of your stories and I have difficulty writing one short poem a day. God bless you and for the continued success of your books. Write on, AUTHOR
