Louisiana's oldest daughter, Lightning, who lives in Colorado with her family, writes and shares some bad news concerning her oldest child (and Louisiana's only granddaughter). She is obviously very upset, and she is looking to her mother for emotional support.

Dear Mama~

Hello! This is your eldest, Lightning. I am sorry for not writing in so long, but I have been incredibly busy with the children, and I also wanted to share some news concerning Jamee. I am afraid it is bad news. Remember last year, when Jamee started having problems walking and with her balance, and I took her to the MDA clinic? Well, Jamee DOES have muscular dystrophy, but she has limb-girdle MD, not Becker's, as was first originally thought. She is now walking with leg braces and forearm crutches, and to see her trying to walk breaks my heart, and I wonder if she is going to have the same outcome as Johnny, my little brother. I look at her, and I can't help but to cry, and her brothers don't understand what is happening to her--or to us, as a family. She (Jamee) is getting weaker, and every week she has therapy, which she does NOT enjoy AT all, and to hear her howls and cries during her physical therapy sessions is heartbreaking, and I can't be in the same room with her.

I just found out about this a few weeks back, and I meant to tell you sooner, but with Easter coming up and you being busy with my brothers and sisters, I just didn't want to bother. I don't know what I have done to deserve this: I already have more than enough problems with my own physical limitations, and to try to take care of five little children and a husband is sometimes next to impossible, and I wonder if I have done the right thing. Mama, I sometimes get so depressed I want to KILL myself; the stress I face every day is unbelievable, and I wonder why things happen this way. I know to look to the Lord, but Mama, it is just so damned hard, and with Jamee being sick with MD, I am afraid I am near the breaking point. I also have had bad thoughts of killing Jamee so she won't have to suffer, and I wonder if I am going crazy.

I feel like a failure as a mother, and I hope you don't think badly of me when you get this letter, but Mama, I don't know what to do! I feel so scared, and I feel so alone! What do you suggest that I do?? I hope this doesn't ruin your Mother's Day, or your upcoming trip to Greece next week, but I had to write and let you know what has been going on with me.

If you don't want to answer this, I'll understand, but I do hope at least you will read this, and know that I was thinking of you. I also wanted to let you know about Jamee and why I haven't written in so long.

~Love, your eldest daughter, Lightning. :( >tears<
