JLee Does the Happy Dance for Boppa
I had been sick for over a week and badly in need of some medicine. Not the kind that comes out of a bottle though, the kind that is only 2 feet high, with pigtails and big blue eyes and just happens to call me Boppa. My daughter called to say she was bringing her in to see me because she too was missing her old grand-dad and going around the house with my picture repeating the name Boppa over and over again till she almost drove her mother to the verge of insanity.
As I didn’t have any treat for her I remembered how much JLee liked kittens or meows as she called them. It just so happens that my new cell phone had a setting that made animal noises instead of rings and one of them was…you guessed it a meow. I hastily set it up and none too soon cause shortly after the little princess came storming through the door into her Boppa’s outstretched arms. After all kinds of over due hugs and kisses were exchanged she got me right down to business with my finger in tow we went through all our normal rituals such as making sure nothing had changed since her last visit and dragging all her toys out of her toy box for us to play with.
I was helping her go down the toy slide or Wheeeee as she called it when she heard the first “meow” which almost stopped her in mid slide. Her blue eyes became the size of saucers and her smile and giggles would melt the heart of a mass murderer on death row I think but it wasn’t either of those that set a memory that I will store in my mind and heart forever. It was her happy dance.
Feet were flying, legs a twisting, little bum bobbing in and out and arms and hands going in all directions. Nothing I had ever seen in my 51 years had ever expressed happiness and pure glee then that little girl and her happy dance. I know that I will be always able, no matter how bleak things ever get in my life, to reach back into my mind and bring up this memory and be able to laugh again. JLee you gave Boppa a most wonderful gift today and I thank you for it.
