     at the diner...
"That's my seat, get out of it now!"
A tall scruffy looking character waves his cane at an unsuspecting mild mannered man occupying a counter stool at the diner.

"I beg your pardon," the horn rimmed unshaved stool squatter says.

"I told you to get out of my seat! What are ya deaf?"

The man slides off the stool and sucks in his bottom lip like a mouse and starts to walk away.

At the same time Sally the waitress (yes, we indeed all do know a Sally or two or three) sashays out of the kitchen and her professionally trained waitress's eye notes what the hell is going on in her dining room.

"Get back here right now!" she screams.

Scared as a rabbit turns and looks at her, then glances around wondering if she is in fact talking to him.

"Wuh ut?"

Cane Creepo smashes his wooden walking aid across the counter, cracking the cane and breaking a few glasses too.

Marvin the mad man cook barges through the doors with his meat cleaver in his hand ready to attack.

Then old lady Denise in booth two clutches her broach adorned chest and gasps for what looks like might be her last breath.

Sally grabs the phone, dials 9-1-1. Marvin sets the cleaver down and runs some cold water over a dish towel to administer to Denise's forehead while they all wait for the paramedics to show.

Mousey Man sits back down on the end stool and Cane leaves the building.

"Hey! look everybody," Freddy the most frequent diner regular points to the clock...the hands are going backwards! Ya know, counter clockwise!"

Sally cleans up the mess and mumbles, "I gotta get my real estate licence. This job sucks!"

The paramedics arrive in time to declare Denise dead.

Marvin throws out the last of the chicken and biscuits with peas.

Closed for the day.

Hello old friend. Sorry, I haven't been around for a while. My wife passed away in march of this year. So I haven't really been myself lately. "Counter" was a nice read. A little bizaar, but nice. Keep it going Lynn. You always knew how to make things happen when it counts.
I have a new "smooth jazz" CD single that I just released recently. If you would like to hear it and /or purchase it, just go; cdbaby.com
Where it says 'album title' type in "The Smile In You," and it will take you to my music web page. Once there, you can listen to sound samples of the tune. Good hunting! Ty.

Hi Lynn,

This was freakin' weird in a wonderful off-the-wall sorta way. So what was going on? An impingement of the Twilight Zone? Great write.
