Dear Kendra Williams~
I feel so blessed and so relieved to get so many caring emails. I didn't realize that Diane, my wife, had so many friends! Thank you for writing in my time of grief and sorrow; you don't know how much your uplifting words mean to me!
I have been crying nonstop it seems, ever since Diane first went downhill and ended up back in the hospital; but I am glad that she is now at peace. Kendra, she suffered so much, and it seemed that I was living at the hospital! I didn't want to leave her, even when she was unconscious, for fear that something dreadful might happen to her...she suffered so dreadfully from the cancer, and she was always in severe pain...nothing could come CLOSE to touching it; she was always in such agony...when she slipped into unconsciousness, to me it was a small blessing, as it meant that she was no longer suffering as she once did...
Diane had a wonderful friend in Louisiana Sandusky in Nashville, Tennessee...she and my wife exchanged letters, and when she was feeling up to it, Diane would respond to Louie's emails. I enjoyed seeing Diane's face light up when she got an email from Louisiana, and it was so joyful to know that she had such a compassion-filled friend in Louisiana! When we met Louisiana last year, we were smitten with her strong Christian faith and her children...she may have a lot more children than we do, but she was (and still IS) a very good mother! Her kids are absolutely delightful! And her husband is a strong man of God and more than happy to be a good husband and father, something you don't seem to find so much nowadays...
Diane's funeral is scheduled for Thursday at 1:00 next week at Del Rio Memorial Haven (the name of our funeral home; it's the closest one to me), and the viewing will be from tomorrow, Sunday, from 2-5 and again at 7-9. The viewing will go on until Wednesday, and the times are the same each day. All her family and friends are more than welcome to come, and I wouldn't mind if you would come. I would love to meet you, and I would love to see Louisiana come as well. But unfortunately, due to family commitments, Louisiana can't come. I can understand, but she did say she was sending flowers and a card or two; so at least she will be here in spirit. She wrote me a very beautiful and inspiring letter this morning, and it comforted me. I also got a letter from mi hermano Esteban, who I haven't heard from in years. He and I parted ways, but then he heard of Diane's death, and I guess he wants to make amends before it is too late. He has had a lot of personal problems, and he has been in jail before, but I am more than willing to forgive him and renew our lives together and start over. It will be so good to see him; I have missed him terribly! (At last recount, Esteban lived in Houston, Texas.)
Please tell me about your family. Are you married? I hear you have a large one, something like fourteen girls! What?? No BOYS?? Maybe you ought to think about that; boys need loving too! I have three ninos y ninas, and all are disabled, like me. I have back problems, and I have had surgery (met with very little success). I can't walk very well, and for longer trips, I use a scooter for mobility. When I CAN walk, I use two canes. I am always in severe pain, but it is something that I have learned to live with. Que sera sera, as they say...I was married to Diane for about 15 years, and we met at a Cinco De Mayo fstival; and it was love at first sight!
Diane and I then started dating, and after we got to know each other, I preposed to her, and we were married about a year later. We tried to have children, but we couldn't; so we turned to adoption; and God brought us six beautiful children with special needs into our lives! Our kids range in age from three on up to 15, and they are delightful children!
Well, Kendra, I have to do other things at the funeral home, so I can be with my wife, and talk to her some more. I also have to make more phone calls and try to get a shower and change my clothes. I am filthy dirty! I will keep in touch. Again, thank you for your encouragement and prayers; they are very much appreciated!
Adios, mi amiga! Hasta luego! (That's Spanish for "goodbye, friend! See you later!")
