Audrey Jackson responds to Kendra's powerful letter
Dear Kendra,
This is Audrey Jackson writing. When Jack read your letter on our computer at home, he smashed the computer to bits. I am using a computer at the library while the kids are taking part in the summer reading program. If Jack finds out I did this behind his back, well… I don’t want to think about how he will react. I might not survive that rampage. That really bothers me because there would be no one to raise my girls. Jack is a great provider, but he lack seriously in the parenting department.
I know I need to get out, but I really don’t see how I can. I have no one to turn to. I would have to move to somewhere like California for Jack not to find us and I don’t know how I would ever manage that. Not with three small children. I have no one to turn to. No one that could help me really cares weather I live or die. My in laws do not believe he beats me like he does. They see their son as the perfect husband and loving father. Jack does not allow me much contact with the world outside of our small home. The only reason we are here at the library today was because the girls begged their daddy so much he finally had to give in. He really loves our girls, and I really believe he would never do a thing in the world to harm them. I wish I could figure out what they do that is makes him love them and not me. I work like a dog, all day while he is at work, trying to keep things to his standard. I often feel like I even neglect my girls because I have to do things to keep the peace. Despite my best efforts, he still is not happy and I am the one who pays the price. Jack sees nothing wrong with the way things are. He grew up in an abusive home. His father beat his mother every day of his life. It was just a way of life for them. I did not know this until after we had adopted our first child, Maria. Being a perfectionist, I had always kept a clean house after we married and after our failed attempts to have children and beginning to adoption process, Jack sat me down one night for a serious talk. He told me having a child to care for was not going to mean I could get out of keeping house. Jack said it did not hurt a baby to cry as long as it was not hungry or needed a clean diaper. Little did I know at the time what he truly had in mind. After Maria joined our family it seemed things went down hill fast. It seemed like he was always complaining about one thing or another being out of order in the house. One day he backed me up against the wall and started screaming at me. Before I knew it he just started punching me in the face. When he was done, Jack picked me up into his arms, and carried me to the bedroom. He nursed my bruises and cleaned my cuts. It was like he was trying to make up for what he had done. Jack also promised to never beat me again. He explained that I was going to do better in keeping up the house, and having his meals ready when he got home. Over the years, he has just gotten harder and harder to please. It seems no matter what I do, he is not happy and he seems to find more reasons than ever in the past couple of weeks to beat me.
Well, I had best go. The girls are done listening to their story. It will take me thirty minutes to get home. I have to load Susie’s walker into the car and help buckle her into her seat. I will try to write more next time we are at the library. I really hope we make this a weekly event. I could use the time away from the house.
If you would, let Louie Sandusky know about the computer incident, so she won’t worry about not hearing from me for a while.
If Jack loved his wife and little girls, he wouldn't be treating them like this. My advice to Audrey: GET OUT, and GET OUT NOW, WITH the girls. Her life is in danger...
And Sarah: PLEASE don't kill off this character, I just met her and don't want to see her harmed! Or her kids!
