Susie Jackson writes to her sister who are far away from her in Californina, from her hospital bed.
Dear Maria and Lacey,
I miss you very much. It is not the same without you here. I get so lonely, especially at night when I am reminded of how we used to cuddle into our full sized bed to sleep. The hospital scary and sometimes I just can't help but cry. Mamma is doing better now. She is staying awake longer. I keep praying for her. I am sure you to too. How are you doing in California? What is the weather like? I haven't been outside in what feels like weeks.
It seems like the world is spinning out of control. So often I don't know which way is up. It seems just yesterday we were living at that small house on Oak Street. We all know things were not perfect, with Daddy the way he was and all, but at least it was home. Now, we have no home. I'm so scared to think of what the future holds for all of us.
Well, I am going to have to close now. The nurse is saying I need to turn out the light and go to sleep. I will try to write to you as often as I can. Deb promises to mail all of my letters to you. She has the address to where you are staying.
Always remember I love both of you. We will be together soon. I promise.
