Dear Maria and Lacey,

I know you are angry. You have a right to be. I would even understand if you were angry with me. You probably feel like no one understands your side of the story. You are mixed up because your world has been torn apart. I know it is hard. The main reason Susie got to stay was she was in the hospital when you went to California. Now, it just makes sense for her to stay here with me until I am able to come to you. It was not because you were bad. You are my perfect angels. I know you feel like you have been sent away but you had to leave because I was not able to watch after you and protect you from your Daddy.

Yes, people do escape from jail, but Susie will be safe. The people who are here taking care of me will protect your sister if that happens. Susie is as safe as both of you are.

I hate to close but I must. My dinner is here and I need to eat so I can keep up my strength, so I can get well and Susie and I can come to California. I will write again as soon as I can.
