Louisiana is going to take some time off from her job at the hospital because of medical and personal reasons; so she writes to her staff to let them know this.
Thursday, July 21, 2005, 10:18 a.m., C.D.T.~

Dear Staff~

I am going to take some time off from work because as you know I have not been very nice lately. I am going through some extremely serious emotional upheaval, and it is starting to effect both my job performance and also my personal affairs, so I think it would be best if somebody else runs the show for a while so I can get myself together.

I might as well tell you this now, so you don't go off and worry your heads about me...I am having a bit of a problem with one of my friends in Mississippi, who has decided to commit suicide, and I am sorry, but I can't deal with this right now. I also am taking time off because all the stress that I am under is starting to affect my sleep (I have had only four hours sleep in the last few nights), and I have been so dizzy and so tired I can hardly function. I have been having blinding headaches, migraines, and I have been so nauseated I can hardly eat anything without wanting to vomit. I also have been shaking uncontrollably. I am at the point of collapse, and my nerves are shot. It doesn't help that I have a husband and kids at home, but right now, until I get some needed rest, he is going to have to be the one to deal with the kids, NOT me. I have been crying my eyes out for the past week, and I have been nasty to my husband and my kids, which is so unlike me. You also know that I have been short with you all, and I am worried about what my patients may think. I am scared I may do a serious error of judgement that might jeopardize their health, so before this even happens, I am going to take some needed time off to collect myself.

I also am taking time off because as you know we adopted another child, a girl from Romania, and she will be coming in just a few weeks; and I have to get the place ready for her arrival. I also have to take the time off so I can be with her during those first few days where everything is so new and strange to her, and I need to be there for her until she adjusts. We will have to teach her English, and we will have to try to reassure her that all is going to be okay for her in America, and that we love her as our own.

This has been a very difficult week, and this decision was extremely painful for me to make, but I am afraid that I have no other choice. I have taken care of you, my patients, and my family, and have neglected myself, and I have started to suffer because of it; so I am afraid that I have no other options. Now it is high time to take care of MY OWN needs, so this is why I have decided to take some leave time so I can recover and spend more time with my family because I have been really been spending too much time here at work as of late!

I hope you understand my decision. I am NOT quitting; I am just taking a much needed break before I suffer a nervous breakdown, and I am afraid that I am near that point now. So this is for my benefit, as well as yours, and until I return, Roberto Sormiento and Genevieve Voison will be your supervisors. I, meanwhile, will be at home recuperating and getting Janica settled into our family.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I will probably return sometime in September or October. By then, hopefully things will have settled down, and by then, I will have hopefully recovered because right now I am definitely NOT feeling well AT all.

Most sincerely, your supervisor, Louisiana Mayrah Therese Sandusky, R.N. :( >tears<

Glad to see Louie taking a break. I know how badly she needs it. I almost feel guilty b.c one of my charaters is a major partly to blame for this. If I had know how much trouble Audrey was going to cause poor Louie, I would have kept her locked safely in my head!

That was done beautifully Karen! There are times, that we all have to recognize that we need a break. Ill health is one of those times . When it gets bad enough we can't function normally, and
it is wise to know it and do what Louie did.Excellent write!

Love,
Eileen
