I keep praying SOMEONE will press the issue of checking on us in our new home but I really don't see this happening. I am beginning to think no one cared in the first place
Dear Diary,
It might be a while before I am able to write again. Caring for Maria has gotten overwhelming recently. She is not dealing with Lacey's disappearence. It takes all of my energy and time to keep her occupied all day. I really have to work hard to keep her from crying. When she starts, it is hard for me to distract her and get her to stop. There is not much in this cellar for me to use to entertain her . She grows increasingly bored as the days pass. I try to tell her story and sing songs with her but we have to be careful to keep our voices down. Our captors come and make us sorry if we make any noise. Lacy has been on the verge of trying to make a break for it, but I have been doing my best to prevent this. I know she would meet the same fate as Maria if she tried to run. I don't know what I would do if I were left alone down here. I think I would lose my mind. Being alone would be too much for me to bear. I could not survive without my sisters. I pray I don't lose Maria. She is the reason I am still alive, she is my reason for living. I would just wither up and die if I were here in this dark prison alone.
I would never admit this to Maria, I can barely force myself to admit what I am about to write. The longer we are down here, the more my hope of being rescued dies. I keep wracking my brain to figure out a way to get a message out someone who could help us. So far I have only come up empty. I keep praying SOMEONE will press the issue of checking on us in our new home but I really don't see this happening. I am beginning to think no one cared in the first place. Everyone was only out for their own selfish gains. They did not care about Maria, Lacey or I. I wonder if they really cared about Mama.
I cannot see the pages very well for the tears streaking down my cheeks, so I will close for now. I should probably try to get some rest while Maria is sleeping as well.
