A grateful woman from Biloxi, Mississippi writes to Louisiana Sandusky in Tennessee, thanking her for coming to help out with medical/relief efforts. She is writing this by candlelight, as her area is still without power.

Dear Louisiana Sandusky~
I am writing this by candlelight; we are still without power, and the food is quickly running out; but I am grateful to be alive. I am still at the community center, at one of the shelters they have set up here, and I am fine (HOT, tired, frustrated, yes; but I am fine!). I am making it with God's help!
I don't know if you remember me, but I met you while you were down helping the victims. You came to the community center, and I thought you and your team looked like angels! You had such care and concern on your faces, and you looked like you knew what you were to do--and you did it very well. I was the one who had the broken leg; and my leg is still encased in that cage, but I am hanging in there. Still, I do hate the pins having to be turned every day..that is still quite painful and unbearable!
I heard from my mama, and she is fine; she is now in Texas, at a hospital up that away, and she is glad to be feeling better. I wish I were with her; I hate being seperated like this! I also heard from my husband, which was a huge answer to prayer; he has the boys with him, and they are in Austin, Texas (they were originally in Houston, but then Rita came, and they had to get outta' town. They did make it to safety, though, and for that I am eternally grateful--and thankful!).
You took such good care of me, and I had to write, to thank you for your love, caring, and concern, and I had to write to tell you that you really meant the world to us during such a scary and difficult time. It is STILL hard here, but we are making it, day by day, and I know that I have angels such as you watching out for us, and I am blessed to know you this way. Thank you for coming in our hour of need, and thank you for taking care of me (and others). You will most certainly be blessed, and God will do marvelous things in your lives!
Well, I have to go, I am hungry; so I am going to try to scare up something to eat (HA). Granted, it won't be much, but some food, no matter how meager or weird it may seem, is better than NO food at all! It is better than lyin' around and starvin' halfway to death!
I will write to you again; take care, and again, thank you for caring for me and for coming here to Mississippi!

great story Karen in reference. I was watching tv showing our crew from Md going down to help others. Hope you and Karla aren't anywhere near the Texas storm
Most of these victims truly are very glad just to be alive, and very grateful for any assistance they have received. We can all learn many valuable lessons from them, and we all need to continue to help them in any way we can.
