Eddie Greene, Louisiana's other friend in South Florida, writes; he is trying to get back after the hurricane that hit Florida and then Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. He had some damage to his property, but his family managed to weather the hurricane and escaped unharmed. He is also dealing with the memories of the hospitalizations of two of his children, Aurora Dawn and Corin, and the unexpected death of their littlest boy, Adam, who died of various severe medical problems that seriously curtailed his young life. Adam was only two years old.

Dear Louisiana~
I suppose you are wondering about me now, especially with all that has been going on here in the Southland, regarding all the hurricane reports. Well, we went through Hurricane Katrina, and while it WAS bad, it isn't NEARLY as bad here as it was in Louisiana and Mississippi, where they both got clocked pretty good. We had some damage to our place, but our house is still standing, and we have already started on the necessary repairs. We are staying with some friends for the time being; and it isn't easy for our big family! It isn't home, but we ARE making it; at least we have food, power, and some clean clothes where we are staying at! I stopped by our place the other day, and the power is still out, but a lot of the damage (mostly to the one side of the roof, several windows, and our yard) has been cleared away; but it will be a little while before Minka, myself, and the kids can be able to return home. But we ARE okay; we survived Katrina, and for that I consider it to be a HUGE blessing! It could have very easily been so much worse!
How have you been doing? I am sorry for not writing sooner, but Aurora has been sick lately, and she just got out of the hospital. It was her heart again; and we almost lost her. She is doing better now, but she is still weak, and she is using oxygen now, and it has been a very scary and uncertain time for us. Please keep Aurora in your prayers, and please be praying for us, her nervous mommy and daddy, as well! We can really use them now! And Corin had a near fatal asthma attack, but she is now home from the hospital, and we are watching her like a hawk. And Adam, our little Miracle, I am sorry to say, has died; he died last month, and it has been devastating for both Minka and myself; and the older kids are also very upset. Yet we view little Adam's death as a blessing in disquise because his brief little life was already so compromised with his severe disabilities, and he suffered; yet we tried our best to alleviate his pain and suffering. Still, we are very upset at his death, but we are glad to know that he is finally at peace and is now no longer suffering. We are hurting now for certain, but with God's help, we are making it, one day at a time.
I wish I could have Adam back; I miss his little smile and his beautiful, doll-like face; and I miss caring for him. He was such a beautiful little boy, and he always seemed to have a smile on his face; and even for all his medical problems, he somehow knew he was loved, and we loved having him for the time we did. We knew that he would eventually die, but we just didn't think it would happen so SOON. I know you have lost several children yourself, so I am sure you are very familiar of the pain of which I speak. I just wish that he could have lived longer than he did, but God decided to call Adam home; so He did, and now little Adam is now an angel, and he is at peace in Heaven, where he is with Jesus. I am sure that he is much happier up there than he was during his brief time here on this earth.
Wasn't that horrible, with all the damage from the hurricanes that hit the southland? First Katrina, and then her little sister just came and made a dire situation all the more desperate. I am just glad it wasn't as bad here as it was in Mississippi or Louisiana (New Orleans and now the Cajun Country, particularly Sulphur and Lake Charles), but still, we did have damage, and now we are temporarily desplaced until the damage can be cleaned up and the power and water have been restored to our general area. It has been rough, but we will make it with God's help! I hope things get better soon for us; as you can see life lately for us has NOT been at ALL good!
Well, Louie, I am crying again (it seems that is all that I have been doing, ever since Corin and Aurora's getting sick, Adam's death, and now the hurricanes). That is a bit too much for me to deal with at one time! Just keep me in your prayers, and do write when you can; I really miss your beautiful letters!
((HUGS)) and prayers, your friend in South Miami, Eddie Galen-Greene. :( >tears<

A very touching story Karen. It really shows a caring person trying to find the strength and courage to continue on in all the catastrophes which is so hard to do especially when it is such catastrophic things as written here completely heartfelt.
