Louisiana writes to her newest friend in Mississippi, who is trying to get her life back in order after Hurricane Katrina devastated her city. Maria is okay, but she lost everything in the storm, and she is now staying at a shelter.
Howdy! This is your friend in Music City U.S.A. writing; I got your last email, and I was happy, very happy, to have heard from you. I am glad that you were able to access the library's computer, and I am glad that some of the power is starting to come back. But as you said, it will be a very long time before Biloxi is liveable again to her citizens, and as a result, many people have been displaced; but I am glad that you are determined to try to start over again. It was a devastating blow to our economy, and it was a very devastating blow to the tourism and casino industries, but if I know Southern folk, they will come back, and they will come back stronger and better than ever! I do hope that this finds you in fairly good health; I am fine, but I have been busy over the weekend; we went to a Hurricane Relief Benefit here in Nashville, and we are tired. My daughter, Ronee', who is 12 1/2, was one of the people who was scheduled to perform, and she did a super job. She sang Cajun and country music, and she played her Cajun accordion, and she did a fantastic job (but then I AM her mama; I CAN say things like that! LOL). Maybe I will send you one of her CD's if you would like; that way, you can hear her sing for yourself. She has been singing since she was very small, and she does a very good job! She wants to become a country singer, just like her favorite singer, Loretta Lynn, and she has been lucky to have performed with her several times on stage!
But this is not about Ronee'; this is more about you and other things that are going on in my world. Sorry about that; but whenever I think of Ronee' and her singing, I can't help but to brag a little! LOL
I am glad that you were able to get the bath that you had been desiring for so long! I know how it is to go without a bath, and it is NOT a pleasant experience! I know sponge baths are not fun, but it is better than stinkin' halfway to death! LOL I also hope that you get to eat something BESIDES beans; it isn't fun being in a hurricane because the food supplies are limited, and you have to be grateful for whatever is given to you! Maybe if you come up this away, I will make you a Cajun-style buffet that you will remember; I am a good cook (or so my family and friends have told me! LOL), and I can make you a crawfish etoufee or some duck jambalaya that is so good you will want to slap yo' mama! LOL (That is how my husband describes my cookin'! LOL He says it is so good, and I could really make a killing selling my Cajun cookin' to the masses! LOL)
Do you like to cook? What is your favorite dish to make? My favorite dish to make are several, actually: I love to make jambalayas of any kind (particularly crawfish and duck), crawfish or shrimp etouffee', seafood gumbo, and maque choux, which is a delicious Cajun corn dish. I also love to make Italian or Mexican fare. And of course, being Cajun, I make sure that there is plenty of boiled crawfish to go around!! :)
The weather HAS started to cool off here, and yesterday, we had rain. We may get more by Wednesday, due to a low pressure area that is coming from the western plains, and we may have several days' worth of rain. But hopefully we won't get the heavy flooding that they had in the Northeast; my, that was some SERIOUS rains they had that away! Over 8 INCHES of the wet stuff! YIKES!! Seems that the remains of Hurricane Tammy are causing havoc!! The leaves are starting to change here, and the nights are definitely getting chillier and chillier. But I AM ready for fall; I love the colored leaves and the crispiness to the air! I also love the football games, and I love making stuff like pies and cider! YUMM!!
Well, Maria, I will let you go; I have to hook up Jodie to her feeding tube; she can't eat by mouth, and she has to be fed by way of a gastrostomy tube that has been surgically implanted into her belly. She has severe cerebral palsy and brain damage, but she is still a very sweet and loving child with a winning personality, and we just love her so much!! Karen Love the story and the Pic is Beautiful I miss Fall Thank you for bringing the best season to me today here.
This is a really nice understanding letter to cheer someone up in the catrastrophe. Rain huh? I got me 50+mph winds here blowing down the awning and everything everywhere for two days rain would be nice here all is so dry needs a good freshwater drink.
