Louisiana writes another letter, this time to her friend, Hurricane Katrina refugee, Maria Jones, who is now in Tennessee, where she is staying with a friend of hers. (Maria Jones got to meet Louisiana's family.)

Dear Maria~
I know I just wrote to you the other day, but I had to write to thank you for coming over and spending some time with me. It was so nice to see you again, and it was so nice seeing you look so happy again! That is wonderful!
I hope that my kids didn't drive you crazy; but they are really good kids. They know how to behave, and they know what is expected of them. I hope that their disabilities didn't scare you (I noticed you seemed uneasy when you saw Bill feeding Todd and hearing Jodie's noises); they are still kids first, and their disabilities are only a SMALL PART of them. Still, they DO need care, and I and my husband, Bill, are more than happy to accomodate their needs! After all, they are CHILDREN! :)
We are getting our house spruced up for the holidays, and we are in the throes of our Christmas shopping. (We officially start our Christmas shopping in AUGUST; we HAVE to with a family of our size!! *Giggle*) Next Saturday we are going to put up our tree and put the lights on and decorate it, and my sons Porter, Richard, and Michael are going to put out the icicle lights on our house and put out the Nativity scene in our front yard. My husband tried to do the lights last year, but he nearly fell off the roof, scaring me halfway to death, and so I have relegated him to the ground. Besides he IS on crutches; he does NOT NEED to be on the roof!! That is pure-t foolishness!
I love this time of year, and I will actually have some days OFF from work! I am officially off from Monday until Friday, then I work on Saturday and Sunday (which means I will miss the morning service next Sunday at Christ Communtiy Assembly of God, which is my church that I attend; I have been going there the past several years, and that was where I gave my heart to the Lord!). I still have to work Christmas as far as I know, I was off Christmas last year and had to work on Thanksgiving, every other year I alternate these holidays. So this year I am off on Thanksgiving and have to work Christmas (but I am secretly hoping that I am OFF on Christmas this year; that would be nice to have BOTH Christmas and Thanksgiving off from work!!). :) I love the excitment of the approaching Christmas holiday, and I love going to the stores and hearing the pretty Christmas music (though personally, I DO wish they'd play more of the carols; seems that you hardly hear them anymore, which is so sad!!) and seeing the decorations going up! It really puts me in the hoiday spirit!! (Now if only we would get some SNOW....)
Maria, do know this: any time you need ANYTHING, even if it is only to talk, remember this: "mi casa es su casa!" ("My house is your house" in Spanish) You are always welcome to come back, and so is your friend, Darlena! She is very nice, and so are you!

Lots going on here. Holiday pen has this one wrapped up with a ribbon of Christianity and hospitality. You're right about the Christmas carols. It would be nice for the carolers to show up at your door. Some places, they still do. Mostly small communities where old still wins out over fast and electronic.
