Trying to watch what you eat on the days apporoaching Thanksgiving is a lost cause.
I mean, SERIOUSLY, who CARES about counting calories or trying to watch your (expanding) waistline when there is a Cajun-fried turkey (surrounded by all its "friends") staring right at you in the face, or when you go shopping for that "last minute item", your nose is assaulted by all the sweet, temptive smells of freshly-cooked pumpkin pie, turkey, cranberry stuffing, and all the cakes and other goodies? In fact, after you see the turkey along with all the other goodies that are so tied to Thanksgiving, you can then kiss your diet right out of the window!
I am sure that there are those people who have no choice BUT to watch what they eat (due to illness or other medical reason; even during holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas, they have to watch everybody ELSE eat!), but as for me, I have no qualms whatsoever about it. In fact, I am on a "seafood diet": I SEE food, and I EAT it! :) It doesn't matter WHAT it is: as long as it is edible, chances are, it WILL make a beeline for my stomach! :)
But the beauty of THIS approaching Thanksgiving and holiday season is that I don't have to cook this year, unlike Thanksgivings of the past. Yesiree, no slaving in a hot kitchen or trying to make sure I have enough food to feed the hungry troops for ME this year...fact is, we are going OUT to eat on Thanksgiving! Let someone ELSE do the cooking and the cleaning while WE get to stuff ourselves until we are ready to burst! We can stay home and watch MOST of the Macy's annual Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC, in living color, then we can head on out to the Golden Corral, where we will be served by friendly wait staff and can choose between an eye-popping display of freshly made, piping-hot foods on the buffet. Then we can say our Thanksgiving Day blessing and then...DIG IN!! We can then waddle our way back to the bus, where we will then go back home and rest our bloated bellies and perhaps catch an exciting afternoon of professional football on the telly. Finally, after the football game has ended, we can then go to bed early to rest up for the day ahead---but then, THAT is ANOTHER story in itself!
The Pilgrims didn't have such thing as a scale. Can you imagine a pilgrim carting a rock slab with a dial on it off the Mayflower! Hilarious when you think about it! To Hell with pound readers...they lie anyway. None of the scales are ever accurate ... and the digital ones that have a computer voice to tell you what you weigh are the worst.! I weigh 134 pounds and that's all I need to know. Pass the turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, yams, gravy, cranberry sauce, mushroom and onion green beans, rolls, pumpkin pie and that jug of wine. I'm ready! Happy Thanksgiving. Thanks for the letter, Karen Lynn.
