Christmas To Me Means Miracles! (by Johnny Sandusky, aged 12 3/4) by Karen Lynn Vidra, The Texas Tornado

Johnny's essay on why Christmas is so important to him.
To me, Christmas means many different things; besides being an important holiday on the yearly calendar, it also means a necessary two-week break from school--not that I hate school. I used to hate it because I had learning problems, but now, thanks to special tutoring, I love it now. The best part about being off from school is that I can sleep in! (I hope, I hope, I hope...LOL)
It also is the day before my birthday. Ronee' was born on December 25th, I came along one day later, on the 26th--Ronee' is older than me by one day; she will always BE older...HA, HA, HA!
Christmas is a miracle time, a magical time. Dreams come true , reindeer fly, and Santa brings gifts to the young and the old.
There have been many miracles in my own family--53 of them, in fact. Three new Miracles came this year--Rani, Arjun, and Janica, thanks to the love in mommy and daddy's hearts for children that have special needs or are considered unadoptable.
This has been a GREAT year, healthwise. Most of us have managed to stay OUT of the hospital, but some have had to go inTO the hospital (like mommy, me, and Ronee', mommy for successful back surgery, Ronee', for successful hip and knee replacement surgeries, and my MD for tests to see how it was progressing; my MD is holding its own...hope it continues!!).
But the best part of Christmas (to ME, anyway!) is this: Jesus was (supposedly) born on Christmas Day (they really don't know WHEN He was born, but we celebrate His Birthday on Christmas Day, December 25th), and He was born to take away the sins of the world and gives hope of Eternal Life if only we accept His Free Gift of Salvation. What a very special present...WAY better than ANYTHING Santa Claus could EVER bring on his sleigh!! :)
So you can see why Christmas is very important to me and my family. God has been so wonderful to us, even when we don't feel worthy to get His blessings. We are indeed fortunate, when so many other people are NOT. With the recent hurricane disasters that struck the American South, many people have lost everything, and help has been very slow to come to some areas. There are also those families whose loved ones are at war, and many families have lost sons/daughters/husbands/wives/grandparents/brothers, sisters, etc., and now they mourn. Christmas should be a time of JOY; for these families (and for ALL), it only means tears or sadness.
Let's look at the REAL Reason of the Season: Jesus Christ. For His being born is the Greatest Miracle of ALL time!! :)
On that note, let us remember that very thing, and let me wish you a very merry CHRISTmas!!

Such a beautiful inspirational write! But Karen, how do you remember all your characters? Unless they are not fiction? But then again this is what good writing is about - not derailing. Amazing write!
What a great combo you twins make!;-) Loved this uplifting letter, coming from a young man with so many problems yet he knows what Christmas means and how to celebrate it! Bravo!. A great message for us all!
Thank you both!
Keepin the main thing the main thing... just love the singularity of this perspective since us "grown-ups" - and I use the term lightly :)) - can get so wrapped in all the trappings and useless busy-ness that surrounds all the razmataz of Christmas glitz. As always, a young one leads the way when it comes to what's important. TY ALL for this refocussing write. LOL Kate xx
This story has a special meaning today. Today is my birthday! I am celebrating with a few girls who brought me something liquid to put in my steerhorn. I don't celebrate Christmas, but instead celebrate Yule on December 21, the winter solstice and Candelmas in Feb, the pagan winter festival. In any religion, the season is for celebrating the joy of family and friends and the continuity of positive movement. Thanks for the letter today, Karen Lynn and Karla.

A delightful story of a needy family of squirrels who are kicked out of their village, because of their tattered clothes and nests.
Abandoned and in search of friends to accept them, they travel many roads of r
