Dear Journal~
Well, I am at work. It's slow; not much action going on. So until the s*** hits the fan, I am going to write in my journal.
Today is the start of the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. Our house is consumed with a fever, a fever which has no known cure. LOL We are all excited about the start of the Games; we always enjoy the Olympics on tv. We will be donned in our Olympic clothes (shirts, pants, etc.) and we will be waving tiny American flags as we support "the home team". Hopefully, they will do as good as they did in the last Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. Last Olympics, our boys and girls brought home a record 30+ medals. GOOOO, U.S.A.!! U.S.A.!! U.S.A.!! U.S.A.!! *WHOOO-WHOOOO!* LOL (SORry about that--I got carried away! LOL)
I am sad to say that my youngest child has been in the hospital. Arjun is doing better, but he will be in here yet for a few days. He had respiratory syncytial virus, which is a serious, contagious illness striking babies or kids under the age of two. Kids who were born premature, kids who have chronic lung (or heart) disease, or kids with school-age brothrs and sisters are especially vulnerable. Kids who go to daycare or kids who aer exposed to cigarette smoke are also susceptivle to RSV. Serious cases of RSV can result in hospitalization and even death. Arjun had been suffering with a runny nose and a bad cough; several days ago he had difficulty breathing, so to the hospital he had to go. He has been getting oxygen and medications via I.V., and he is doing MUCH better. He doesn't enjoy all the doctors or nurses poking him or interrupting his sleep, but he IS feeling better. He is breathing so much easier (thanks to oxygen), which is a huge relief for this worried mama.
Thankfully, the other children haven't been sick, not with even a simple cold. God has been good to us this winter! I hpoe and pray that this continues. I hear of meningitis outbreaks in other states, or the threat of the Asian Bird Flu entering the U.S., and I always get terrified. I have had to deal with meningitis before (several of my kids have had it, one of them, TWICE!), and it is NOT a pleasant experience. My husband has had a bug where he was throwing up and having diarrhea, but nobody else got it. He is the only one who was sick this winter until Arjun came down with RSV. The other kids have been healthy as horses! :)
We have snow today. When I got up this morning to get ready for work, there were fat snowflakes falling, and the drive to Nashville Memorial Hospital was quite slippery. I did take my time, and I made sure that there was plenty of room between my van and the cars surrounding me. If Bill decides to go to work today, I hope he is very careful! As for the kids, they are safely ensconced in their respective schools, but if it gets bad later, school may very well be cancelled, and either Bill or I will have to leave work early to get the kids or wait for them as they come home. It is going to be an interesting day, I can feel it in my bones!
Well, the ER tones are sounding; seems that the day is going to be a busy one, maybe even chaotic. I hope not; I feel like an egg in a blender when the ER is busy! LOL Take care, dear Jouranl, and God bless! Will write in here later!
