Johnny's thoughts on the 20th Winter Olympics, which have kicked off today in Torino, Italy. He also writes of the imaginary Olympic "competitions" his family will be holding in their backyard, which, for two weeks, has "become" Torino, Italy--complete with "Olympic medals". :)

It is late for me (10:36 as of now), but I am up with the family, watching the Opening Ceremony of the 20th Winter Olympic Games, which are being held in Torino, Italy. Over 80 nations are taking part, including our own American athletes (Michelle Kwan, Chris Witty, Apolo Anton Ohno--that is his REAL last name! Hmmm...wonder what would happen if he would fall [GOD FORBID; I PRAY that DOESN'T happen!!]; then he could live up to his name! I am sorry! LOL I couldn't help myself! I am in a weird mood! LOL,Vonetta Flowers, Sasha Cohen, Bodie Miller, and others). Some of our atletes are heavily favored to win medals (Bodie, Michelle). Michelle Kwan has been in two Olympics prior to this one, and she won bronze in 2000, silver two yeares ago, but she has yet to win gold. The last Olympics, it was three American women in figure skating who medaled: Sarah Hughes (gold), Michelle Kwan (silver), and Sasha Cohen (bronze).
For two weeks, athletes will be testing their athletic skills against the best of what the world has to offer, and there will be many opportunities for defeat, victory, shattered world records, missed chances, and even scandal and much drama. There will be people from all over the world watching these athletes and cheering them on to victory. Hopefully our team will make a good showing: the last Olympics, we won a record 33 medals, six of them gold. You can bet I will be glued to the tv screen during the next two weeks, for I am an EXTREME Olympic Junkie! LOL If watching the Olympics was an Olympic event, I would surely win GOLD!! :D
Speaking of the Olympics and Olympic medals, I DO have some souvenirs from the last two Olympics (my friends Sari and Nikolas went to the Summer Games last year in Greece, and my friends Roberto and M'Buti went to the Salt Lake City games four years ago). I even have some pretend Olympic gold medals, and so whenever I play that I am in the Olympics, we pretend we are world-champion athletes, and we give out "medals" to one another. We also have our Olympic music CD playing, to give it a more "Olympic feel", and when I "partake" in the Olympics, I am usually a world-champion mono-skier (skier who sits on a sit-ski when they can't walk or move their lower half). We will probably play Olympics tomorrow in our back yard, and in our imagination, our backyard becomes Torino, Italy, and we always have a fun time "realizing our Olympic dreams". :) Hey, it snowed today; so we CAN "hold" the Olympics in the vicinity of our backyard! :D The whole family will take part, and we will do this for as long as the cold will let us stay outside! LOL
Well, the opening ceremonies just ended (Italian opera singer Luchiano Pavaratti sang opera--what a big mouth he has! LOL--, and there were fireworks), and tomorrow starts the first of the medals to be handed out. I hope we get one (or more!). :) I am going to call this a night; it is nearly 11 at night, and if I want to be "ready" for the "Olympic competition" tomorrow in "Torino, Italy" (our yard!), I'd best get my needed rest if I want to have any chance of winning an "Olympic gold medal"! :D See ya!
