This is a story about my dog Tia a 2 1/2 year old pug.

*************************************
It’s only been ten days now since Tia had her first seizures. When it first happened I thought she was choking on something that she may have put in her month as she often does. But I was wrong as I jump to grab Tia and help from what believed to beat the time her choking, turned out to be much worst. She was having a seizure the first of three that day before I was to rush her to the hospital.

I called my vet which was closed and had an emergency number to call for after hours calls. And as I was dialing that number Tia had another seizure a little less intense than the first but still a concern for me. The hospital told me to wait until she had her third one and then bring her in. I thought what! But I was on crutches and knew it would take some time for me to get dressed and drive myself across town. So I thought I should just go now and wait in their parking lot, so that I wouldn’t have far to go. I got dressed and went down stairs. Tia went to the refrigerator which always means she wants some water so I gave it to her. After a few sips she had started having her third episode. Needless to say I grabbed my baby and took her in my arms then hopped out to the car and left.

This was the scariest ride ever. I didn’t know what to do or think only that I was scared out of my mind and couldn't stop crying and praying. I think I even went over the speed limit a couple of times and then I said to myself they will just have to give me a ticket, because at that very moment I could only think the worst for my baby and how I didn't want anything to happen to her. I mean I really believed that I would die if she didn't make it.

Her breathing was getting shallow and she wasn’t responding me. I put her on my lap as I drove on the highway and through the streets of Grand Rapids.

When I made it to the door I rang the door bell and someone helped me in. I told them who I was and that I had just called about my dog having seizures. Luckily there was no one waiting to be seen so they brought us right back.

Then Tia was taken into one room and I was told to wait here. What seemed like a lifetime of waiting was only a few minutes as my mind went wondering all over the place with speculations of what was happening with my Baby. Then they came in to go over everything “the cost”. And I almost fell out from the cost. Luckily for me and Tia I had just received my tax refund. There is only one thing that I can say about the prices they are too high for everything. They pumped my pet full of drugs all while they were telling me they didn’t know why she was having the seizures. But she needs these drugs to get better.
Then I was told that it would cost me anywhere from $600 to $866 dollars for tonight’s treatment plus extra cost of her stay and a $150 deposit would have to be paid tonight. But they felt she needed to stay at least three days for observation of her. I left her there that night but I picked her up that next morning and brought her home with. I bought her back for the treatment for the rest of the weekend and took her to my vet for the rest of her treatment.
She was still having seizures at least until they could find the right dose for her but I love her to death and would do anything for her. I just wanted to see my baby return to her normal self with the bright look in her eyes but it had left and never really returned. After a little over two weeks I rushed her into my vets office. One office the assistance help bring her in and told me she would talk to the doctor because she didn’t think Tia look well and thought she needed to be seen right away.
She returned back out and told me that the doctor said that she was fine and could wait to be seen. Then no more than 15 minutes later she came up to me and ask me to come into the examine room. When I walked in I didn’t see Tia so I was scared of why. She said the doctor will be right in and she left. The door opened again and it was the doctor. He looked at me and said she didn’t make it. That she had a grand maul and it was too much for her little body to handle. I was in shock. All I could say was what! Then I went to denial and said I want to see her. He brought her in the room and I still had to touch her to make for sure. Then I just sat there and cried. I got up and went home then cried some more and some more. I cried until I made myself throw up. I had her cremated and brought her home with me. I thought it would help me get over the loss ut every time I turned around all I could see was her face looking back at me. Like the face she would give me when she was watching TV or how she would move to the end of the bed so see could hear the TV. I don’t what she understood about people talking but she did not like you talking while she was watching television.

So when my son called and ask me to move over seas with him I did. I packed my bags and started preparing to move. And now I have been here for four months now. I still think of her and it still hurts. But I am not seeing her in every room that I go into any more. But thinking about her I think will always bring me to tears.
I only have this to say before you buy a dog make sure there is a vet in your town that knows something about the care of your type of dog. Because being a Vet doesn’t mean they know everything about all dogs. It could save your dogs life.
