Today is an exciting day for the Sandusky family. Their fifty-fourth (adopted) child, a seven-year-old boy with cerebral palsy, is coming today from Russia.

Dear Journal~
This won't be long; in less than two hours we leave for the Nashville Airport, where we will pick up our fifty-fourth child, a little boy from Russia! Our new son to be is named Vlademir Aleksander, and he is seven-years old. He has bright-red hair, big blue eyes, and is in a wheelchair: he was born with cerebral palsy that has left him spastic and unable to walk; he also can't talk, but I am sure that he will be able to make his wants/needs known (that is, once he understands English).
We have found out about two/three months ago that he was to join our family; we have been breaking our necks to ensure that the house is in order and that his room is in good standing: it is akin to waiting for a new baby, and in a way, we ARE getting a new baby: the only thing is, our "baby" is a little seven-year-old boy! :)
I have alerted all my e-mail friends about Vlady's arrival, and I have told my kids who are not home about his coming; they should be coming home within the next few weeks, so they can meet their new little brother. This is an exciting time in our lives; and no matter how many times we have welcomed a new child into our International Family, the feeling never gets old!
I will be writing in the next few days or weeks, to let y'all know how Vlademir is doing, how he is settling into our family, and the like. I will also let y'all know about Bill's and my upcoming Mexican cruise, which is coming up fast. That is only in eight days: we leave on the 23rd and come back on the 28th of June. In addition, I will write about our July Fourth festivities and how special it is going to be for us this year because we have new family members to enjoy, and also new family members who have joined some of my friends' families. There is plenty to celebrate, and we will also be thanking God about our Nation and how blessed we are to be Americans, no matter WHERE our forefathers came from!

Oh Karen, we just love the picture of this little boy and have missed it during the last few weeks. A wonderful, happy entry, how very exciting!

Exciting, indeed. Congratulations, but I think she's nutz for having all those kids! Oh, well, the love in her heart more than compensates for her craziness. :) Well done!
