Dear Journal~
Hi! This is your friend, Johnny, writing! How are you doing? I am doing great!! :)
I have a new brother from Russia; he came two days ago, and he is so cute! He is seven years old, and his name is Vlademir Aleksander. (We may keep his Russian name, but mama may end up calling him Keith Aleksander; I like his name now; she doesn't need to change it!!) He has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair: he cannot walk or talk, but I am sure that once he learns English, he will be able to express his needs using his eyes or even a word board if that is feasible.
I have had a bonzer summer so far (bonzer is awesome in Australian). I have gone to Fan Fair (last weekend), and I have gone to a Cajun music festival (held the weekend before; they also had a tribute to our fightin' men and women, and I met a lot of veterans there).
I have my Alaskan cruise to look forward to (that will be happening in October; we are going for two glorious weeks!!), and so far, my health has been holding out.
No problems with unexpected (or new) weakness, no really major problems with my breathing or heart--hope it lasts! :) I haven't had any seizures in God knows how long, and it has been a long while since an ambulance has had to come to our place.
Hmm...I wonder if the paramedics even know if we are alive! LOL They are probably wondering if we MOVED because it has been EONS since we gave 'em any business! LOL (I do kind of miss Victor Smith, "Goose" Guzman, and Patty Moss; they have taken good care of me when I fell sick, and they showed me much in the way of compassion and friendship when I needed it the most! :) )
I am still palling around with Jose' Varques, and I have some new friends in Spike Green (his real name is Scott, but his pals call him Spike; I don't know why, but that is how he introduced himself when he came to the 'hood!), Taylor Fitzsimmons, and Uriah Brown.
I met them a few months ago at the mall when Jose' and I went, and we have been hangin' around together since. Spike, Uriah, and Taylor don't mind my being in a wheelchair: they think it is cool, and they think it is cool that I don't let my problems get me down. We play b-ball together, and we play video games and go to the movies. The last good movie we saw was "Cars"; that was so funny and it was very well done! :) Definitely two thumbs up in my book! :)
I have been doing a little performing: the last time I sang on stage was at the Cajun festival: my sister Ronee' performed too, and we got to perform together. It was a lot of fun, and I got to do my Ronnie Milsap songs and even some Mickey Gilley and Jerry Lee Lewis. I used to be able to play the piano with my feet the way the Killer does, but my MD has gotten to the point to where I no longer can do that, but I still can do his songs. I really like him; but my favorite of the piano-playin' country stars is definitely Ronnie Milsap. (Dang. I keep wanting to put RONEE' Milsap for some weird reason! LOL)
Ronee' is still playin' her accordion and singin'; she is really good at what she does. Makes ME look like a rank amateur! LOL She does it all: Cajun, country, rock, gospel, even rap, but Cajun and traditional country is where she really shines! :) Speakin' of Ronee', she tried out for that new tv talent show, "America's Got Talent", but she got nervous beforehand and puked on the stage right when she was audtioning. It was kinda' funny, but it was slso disgusting! LOL I felt so bad for her, but she got over it! LOL (Somethin' new to tease her about when she bugs me; I can bring it up, and whoo-mamma, she gets MAD! LOL)
I have some bad news to throw into the mix: I WAS going to see Loretta Lynn in Texas this July, but she fell during a show and hurt her shoulder; she had to cancel, and one of the dates she cancelled was the show at Billy Bob's. We will have to get our money back. I was lookin' forward to going to Texas this summer; now it looks like we are going to have to stay put. (I feel bad for Loretta: she has had a rough go at it lately; I wonder if she is going to have to give it up..she may very well have to, the way her health has been lately, the poor ol' gal! :( I will have to say some special prayers for her tonight when I go to bed!!)
Well, I don't know what we are doing for the Fourth, but I bet one of the plans involves the parade. We also may be performing then too. I hope so; I love to be on the stage, and I love to watch the people dancing while I sing/play! :) I know Ronee' will be itchin' to get her Cajun accordion on the stage; she absolutely LIVES to perform! A future diva in the making, yessir, that is Ronee' ALL OVER! :)
Well, this is it about now. I have to go; am going to go play with my friends, who are due here any time. Take it easy, and God bless! See ya later, alligator!
Delightful exuberance, natural warmth and sincerity. So wonderful that even a young guy with such daily disability can speak so positively and enjoy life to the full, notwithstanding the difficulties... or at least, that's how it would seem. A wonderful and youthful capture! Bless you, Kate xx
Wow! Karen this one is so full of info. I always love Johnny's Journals;-) they are special like their author!
I'm so glad you will be back soon. In the meantime I'm sure you have written many more wonderful stories for us to enjoy.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers, and you know you have mine!
My goodness. . . Have you ever thought about putting these together and attending a children's home, doing a reading (explaining the basis of these journals of course?) So many children I feel would relate to these journalings. . . Artistry is sometimes as simple as just being childlike in our hearts. I see such honesty and innocence in these. . . so many of them say to me that we need to slow down, and make time for people.
It is the love of people that make this world go 'round. Your journals show that so vividly time, after time, after time.
Blessin's and many (((hugs))), I haven't forgotten you. . .still praying that God meets all of your needs even when it looks like there are no more crumbs in the cookie jar of life.
Hang in there, never stop writing, love to both you and sis.Karla
great write, Karen. I am still waiting for the update on Dr. Wright, after making me wait this long, it better be LOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGG too. I'm still trying to suck him into my story about Audrey and her kids as well, so you better watch out.
Let this coming of age story of a boy named Bean take you back to a simple time. Set in a small southern town in the 1960's, encircled by a river and gleaming white cotton fields.
A wicked Cajun Fairy named Robes Pierre entered the impenetrable Magical doll land of Sha Bebe. Queen Faustina, the ruler of the doll land, thought she had destroyed him, but he's back! Will the doll land survive his evil ways?
