Eileen Weston in Denton, Texas, writes to a new friend in Tennessee who is very experienced at raising adopted children with special needs.
(Louisiana and her husband, Bill, have adopted fifty-four children, most with special needs, and they have recently found out that they are to get a little boy from Israel in a few months.)

Dear Louisiana Sandusky in Tennessee~
It was such a refeshing breeze to get your uplifting letter in the mail today! I also got the books from Phoebe Pearson, my friend in Fort Worth; I shall start reading them when I get off the computer! LOL You are a beautiful woman, Louisiana, and your children look like a miniature United Nations! Wow, what a huge family you have! I have never seen so many children in one family in my life! You all look like a church group or something! LOL
Thank you for writing; it was good to hear from you! I appreciate the time you took to answer my questions pertaining to adoption! Now I know that I am not alone, and I am glad that you know what you are doing because I sure don't! I did get the list of the adoption agencies you sent; and I will be contacting them (as soon as I work up enough nerve, that is! LOL)! You are a blessing in disquise, and you and your husband are angels for taking in so many hurtin' children! God bless you all!
I don't know why I am scared to adopt, but I am. It is such a huge commitment on the parent's part, and it is so darned expensive! How do you manage to raise over fifty children without runnin' yourselves broke?? I'd be in the poorhouse if I were you! LOL God must have a Hand in it; there is no other way to explain it!
Your children are absolutely beautiful! So many different disabilities, so many different colors, so many different racial backgrounds; yet they are one family, and it is obvious just by the happy smiles on their faces that you have done a terrific job with them! I especially love the little girl in the wheelchair who is laughing up a storm, and the little girl with the black hair on the canes: she is as cute as a bug! The little boy with the white hair and the John Denver glasses is a cute little one too; he looks like he could stir up some mischief when one least expects it! LOL What are their names; and how old are they?
I also love the littlest boy with the shock of black hair and the little Oriental girl with the dimple in her chin; she is a love too!
Your husband is awfully tall; you must have come to Texas to find him! They say that things are bigger in Texas! LOL Looks like some of the cowboys I have seen in Dallas or in Fort Worth! LOL When you say opposites attract, you are a good example of that! LOL
I will be contacting the agencies and will be doing some serious time on the Internet once I get off here. Seems like I have to educate myself on adoption and also on raising children with special needs. I hope I can do it; it doesn't look easy! You have to have the patient of Job to raise so many broken children like you do; but you are a Miracle Worker, and the world certainly needs more people like yourself and your husband! (And also Phoebe Pearson, my friend!) :)
Is the weather any cooler (or rainier) there in Tennessee? Here in North Texas we are BEGGING for some needed moisture, let alone, cooler weather! We are in the midst of an extreme drought, and it doesn't look like we will get a break in the weather pattern any time soon. God, I am MORE than ready for this stupid heat to break: I am about to MELT!! ARRGGHHH!!! Pleeeeeease send us some relief to us, and the sooner, the better!!
We have been praying for relief, but so far, it seems that God has turned a deaf ear to us Texas folks. I don't know what He has against Texas, but He MUST have something against us to give us such terrible weather!! *groan!*
Thank you again, Louisiana, for the letter, and also for the books; I will be reading them, and I will also be on the computer, doing research on the adoption process and raising children with disabilities, see what I am going to get myself into! Hi Karen, It's amazing how well you keep track of these characters and the issues in their lives. You make each story and situation interesting to the reader...like peeking through the window and seeing into each life. Great writing. Thank you.
