This is Day #4 of my mind, body and spirit makeover journey....

Well, when I woke up yesterday morning, it actually looked as if I had GAINED a few more pounds. My stomach was bloated and my behind had spread even more.

I went back to the cross country trail at Duke University for more punishment. I kept thinking to myself, "No pain, no gain,"  as I pushed myself to complete the course.  I actually did a little jogging along the way.  The heat and humidity wasn't as bad as it was the day before and the way I hear it, it's nothing in comparison to the way it could be if I don't make it to the pearly gates!!!

After going to noon Bible study, I got a little rest and then went to the gym for my very first kick-boxing class. Someone might say I'm just a glutton for punishment.  But if I'm going to be serious about my desire to fit and fabulous after 40, then I've got to step up and do what's necessary to get there.  Now, I'm not trying to kill myself or become permanently injured in the process but the one thing my physical trainer always says is you have to PUSH YOURSELF. His theory is you must take your body out of its comfort zone by changing your workouts every few weeks and increasing your level of intensity.  The treadmill may be your favorite workout machine at the gym but if you don't change your routine by trying something else like the elliptical or a high/low impact aerobics class from time to time, he says you'll reach a plateau and will reap very little additional weight lost benefits.

I'll tell you, that kick-boxing class made me use muscles I didn’t even know I had! I guess that’s a good thing though.
Before I went to bed last night, I prayed again to the Lord.

“Dear God, Thank you for giving me the energy and strength to keep pressing toward my weight loss goals. I do ask that you continue to deliver me from the evils of too much food and sugar and, Lord, please help me to stay motivated so You will bless my efforts. In Jesus name I pray, Amen."

This morning I woke up with new hope!

Girl, just reading your excerpts from your book is getting me more inspired to step up my own workout (well, just to begin again!). Keep up the good work!
