Hardship comes to us all in many different ways at various stages of our lives. We must understand that life is constantly changing and therefore we have to learn how to roll with the punches in this fast pace world we live in. Sometimes, we may think we have life all figured out when everything seems as though they are slowly beginning to fall into place, then life throws something at us all when we least expect it, and this is were many of us seem to loose our bearings on life. Life doesn’t care if you are rich or poor, we all must go through the various fazes of life at some point in time. The hardships we face come to us in various forms, it maybe the death of a marriage or a loved one, lost of job, health problems etc. These hardships will set us back at times, but it should only be temporary not for a life time. There are three things that I have found to be powerful in the rebuilding stages of my life they are; time, determination and curiosity.
For instance there were times in my marriage were everything around me just seems to fall apart no matter what and how hard I try, and this is the point that it seems that I should just give up on everything if I accept the world’s interpretation of how we are suppose to conduct ourselves and live our lives. The world’s interpretation is one of failure or to give up if we are not instantly satisfied. But I have a very curious mind, and I no longer wish to live by the rules of society. I now desire to live according to my handbook, the Bible, and will wait and trust in the Creator to see what will be the outcome if I continue. Mmm, will there be a light at the end tunnel? Or will I be able to put everything in perspective and make sense of it all? Could the pain that I’d felt and the disappointments of life’s trials someday be worth it all? Was this the beginning of my true destiny and this maybe God’s final test for me in my steps towards my destiny? Or, if I choose to give up, what lies ahead?. These are the questions that flood my mind, and even though it would be much easier for me to give up, it’s the fear of the unknown that boggles my mind – “what if?”- But I was determined to pursue my destiny and will not let my present circumstances determine my future. In times of trouble, heart ache and pain, I’d come to rely heavily on the above Psalm (23). I’ve lived by its every word to let it guide and give me strength and peace. For instance, the first line that says, the Lord is my Shepard . . . This assures me that I have someone watching over me to guide me in the correct path of my life if I let my spirit instruct me. Our Creator communicates with us through our spirit, but we must learn how to listen and obey, when he speaks, which includes the thoughts that flow through our mind, our speech and attitude toward our daily living. And though I was challenged in every area of my life --- in marriage, finances, and health - through it all I kept pressing on, living one day at a time, and never giving up, for he said in his words, “They that wait upon the Lord he shall renew their strengths.” This to me was a great encourager and comforter when it seems like my whole world was falling apart. There were times in my marriage when I thought about giving it up and living a single’s lifestyle, but deep inside my spirit was telling me this is where God wants me to be. Maybe he has given me the strength to endure my husband’s actions and the trials that life had brought our marriage so that I may be an inspiration and motivator to someone else who is about to give up on marriage and life itself. We are not here for ourselves, and I believe that if we stay positive, then each one can reach one --- and each one must teach one. My story may not be your story, but it may be similar in some ways to the things that you may encounter in your life. And no matter what, you must remain positive and balanced to be able to take a stand, and set principles, to have integrity and self esteem for the things that you believe in. Learn to trust in God so that he may be your source in all things. Our lives were not meant to be easy, because if it were, then we would have no need of God.

Powerful message delivered in simple prose. Karlene shows us that spiritual learning and living can be achieved without a lot of noise. The beauty of God and his message is that "it's most time delivered in the quiet moments." Karlene’s memoirs is one of God’s quiet moments.
