We’re heading to the City of David
We’ll probably have to walk or jog, or…
“…saddle up some camels,” says Victor.
“Buuurrrr! It’s going to be a chilly night,” says Andy.
“The moon is out. We can read the ancient scrolls on the way.
Found anything interesting, Kimmy?” asks CJ.
“Yup! You guys are not gonna believe this one. Listen to what
it says in Isaiah 7:14.”
The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son
And will call Him Immanuel…
“A virgin will what?” chorus the Diggers.
“But the angel never said anything about a virgin. He said we would find a Saviour in the City of David,” says Andy.
“Looks like we got a whole lot of digging to do before we reach the great city,” says Victor.
“I know something about the virgin birth,” says Joyce. “The story goes like this…”
And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary…
“Yeah, that’s what it says here in Luke 1 verses 26 and 27,” says Kimmy. “Confirms what I read in Isaiah 7:14.”
“Hey, guys,” says Lew, “verses 28 and 29 of Luke says…”
And the angel came in into her and said, Hail thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw Him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be…
“Well, I would be more than troubled if anyone told me I would have an immaculate conception,” says Victor.
“I would be too, Vic, especially since you’re a bloke,” says CJ.
“Listen up, guys,” says Joselyn, “hear what it says in verses 30 and 31.”
And the angel said unto her, fear not, Mary; for thou hast found favour with God. And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call His name Jesus…
“Oi! Hold it right there, Joselyn,” says Andy. “I thought His name was Immanuel. Who is Jesus?”
Just then the sound of galloping hooves, followed by an authoritative voice, reaches the ears of the Diggers.
“I can help you with that question….if you like…” said the voice.
“Hey, look! It’s Richard charging gallantly on a Bactrian camel,” says Kimmy, once the dust has settled.
And so the Diggers wait with baited breath
For Richard and his charge to join them…
And so must we wait with baited breath
