A short humorous tale of three kitties and a Christmas tree.
In chapter two of my book I make mention of my three most cherished cats. Each have their own personality and they always find ways to keep me on my toes. Thought I would share the events of this morning because I found it humorous. My three cats are named Cherokee (7), Alexandria (Alex 2) and Cassandra (Cassie 2). The three of them are very bright, inquisitive, intelligent and most of all mischievous kitties. My husband and I put up our Christmas tree this weekend with all of the usual glitz and glitter, but no tinsel. For anyone with cats or dogs, you already are aware that tinsel is a no go. Instead of the traditional glass ornaments, we have either plastic, cloth or homemade wooden decorations. Why? Once the tree goes up it seems to be an invite for three little munchkins to climb and play in. It is not as though they do not have any toys to play with or climb on, quite the contrary their toys are in every room! Christmas presents are wrapped and stuffed in a closet to keep Alex from chewing off the bows and ribbons and Cassie from trying to eat the tape. (Cassie has a thing for eating tape of any kind, so all tape must be locked in a drawer.) Cherokee likes to find things she can pick up, walk off with and hide in any one of her special hiding places. This morning I had errands to take care of and was careful to watch the time. When I arrived home Cherokee had herself wrapped between two tree branches sound asleep. Alex and Cassie were taking turns playing what I call "cat hockey" with about a half dozen ball decorations! Well, guess they managed to keep themselves busy while I was out! When the two little ones, Alex and Cassie, realized I was home they did the usual and came running. They have learned when I go outside, I never come back empty handed. There is always a new toy, mat, blanket or treat somewhere in the packages for them. I gave Cherokee her present a little later on after she woke up and climbed down out of the tree. Now the daily battle begins on who gets to the tree first, them or me. They are as determined to play with the tree as I am to deter them. Yet, I would nothave it any other way.
Cats are a wonderful work of mother nature that we bring inside our homes. These little ones think you are awfully nice to have brought a tree inside for them to play on--and to put toys on it, too! Boy, you just think of everything! :)

Colorful story and I could see it. It seems all cat/kittens have one goal, play with stuff. They are unique and very proud animals. When my dog saw his first live Christmas tree in the home, he thought we bought him his very own personnel bathroom. No more live trees after that.

People and their animals!! My dog knocked over our tree the first year we had him--for some reason he liked to crawl under it-it would get off balance and fall. After that we learned to tie it up.

Cats are funny, aren't they? There are six of them running around this house, and they all congregate in the kitchen every morning to be fed. Cassidy especially because he wants his ham, which is supposed to be lunch meat for us while he winds up having most of it.
Very fun to read. With three mini-dachshunds, my hubby and I must leave the lowest branches ornament-free. lol! Thanks for sharing this!

Glad I ran across this fun article. I know, you can spend thousands but they'll only play in an old cardboard box. Give them nice balls to play with, they'll prefer the tree ornaments! GGRRRrr
A little Christmas cheer in the middle of Spring is exactly what I need. My foster kittens are determined to climb a tree, too. Trouble is, I haven't got one. Look out chandelier.
