This IS very touching, and so endearing. The Vietnam Conflict (War) was another land we had no business in. I don't know how true it is, but I was told that when Harry S. Truman was President, and the Korean Conflict was going on, there were French forces in what was then French Indochina (Vietnam), and that French president Charles deGaulle asked President Truman for help. I had also heard that once our forces were there, deGaulle pulled his forces out, leaving us holding the bag. I don't know how true that is, but that is what I was told.
This letter to your loved ones stirs the heart, and makes a person smile at the gentleness with which a soldier on the front lines can write. Thank you Paul, for sharing this.

A letter written in 1970 is still relevant today in these times. This is a realistic glimpse into a soldier's life. A beautiful poem, too!

Oh wow! This brought tears to my eyes, Vietnam...remember bits and pieces of it. Had family that served, I recall them leaving, I was but a very young child...however, I studied it in depth and interviewed vets that made it home. I love history...this was a paticularly sad time in our nation, as is today. I don't protest war, as I don't always agree either...I know it is a part of life and a fullfillment of the bible, but still sad nevertheless. Great write my friend, so glad I stopped by this early Thursday morning...great reminder to pray for our troops, families, nation, and government.
