Farmer Elmer was sad this morning, for his loyal rooster, Henry, was missing.
Farmer Elmer did not wake up in time to feed the animals because he could not hear Rooster Henry’s wake up calls.
He went outside to the farm to look for Henry, but Rooster Henry was nowhere to be found. He then went down the road to the market to look for Henry.
He looked for a rooster with brown feather that wears a red crown, one that fits to be a king amongst its feather-friends.
He was worried that something has happened to Henry, for he knows Henry would never walk away from the farm. Rooster Henry was always the one who wakes up everyone in the morning.
He would remind them all the chicken, all the doggies, all the horses, the cows, the cats, and all the other farm animals to wake up for their breakfasts; and then they would all sit around Henry, for Henry is like a big brother to them all. He would take care of all the animals.
But today, Rooster Henry was not on the farm. Mr. and Mrs. Farmer Elmer and all the animals became sad and worried.
Farmer Elmer went to the market to look for Henry. He found a rooster that looks like Henry, but it was put by its owner inside a cage. It has brown feather just like Henry’s, and it also has a red crown on its head, but this rooster looked very sad. It sat there inside the cage; its frightened eyes stared outside the cage at all the bystanders, confused and lost.
Farmer Elmer immediately recognized that was Henry inside the cage, so he went up to its owner to ask how he got the rooster. Its owner was a tiny kind man. He told Farmer Elmer he was coming home the night before and found two people holding a rooster in their hands, but the rooster was crowing, its screams were loud. At first, he thought the rooster was hurt, so he went up to see what he could do to help; but as soon as he walked up to the two men, they immediately let go of the rooster and ran away. The rooster was shaken and frightened. It laid there on the ground. He stroked its feathers and held it up. Fortunately, the rooster was not hurt.
“Thieves! They were thieves!” Farmer Elmer exclaimed. “This is my Henry! They have kidnapped him from my farm! That was why Henry was screaming."
Farmer Elmer began to cry. He walked up to the cage and called out Henry’s name.
When Rooster Henry heard Farmer Elmer’s voice, he turned his head to look and saw Farmer Elmer, he immediately became very happy and began to crow. He flapped his wings and ran all over the places inside the cage!
“Oh, Henry! It is really you in there! Oh, Henry! I’m so glad I’ve found you! We can both go home now!”
Farmer Elmer thanked the tiny man for his kindness in saving and keeping Henry. Then, he went home with Henry to meet the family.
When Henry arrived home to Elmer’s Farm he was so happy he began to run all over the place and crowed cheerfully even though it was the middle of the day, and all the animals came forward to welcome their best friend. They were all happy to see Rooster Henry home once again.

Such a cute little story! I can envision the illustrations to this one and with your artistic talents, combined, I know children would love this! Many of us have experienced either being lost or something treasured, lost. The ending made me smile! Home at last!
