The (fictional) story of a survivor in all sense of the word.
My name is Katrina Anne Delchamps, but my fiance' (and most of my friends) call me "Kat". I prefer it this way: I can't stand the name "Katrina".
You see, I am a survivor of Hurricane Katrina when it decimated New Orleans, Louisiana, in the early morning hours of Monday, August 29, 2005. Now whenever I hear my name, I immediately think back to that awful day, and it is something I would much rather forget.
I'd lived all my life in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was a city I'd grown to love. I loved her people, I loved the party atmosphere, and I especially loved the food. I loved the weather (excepting during "hurricane season"), and I loved the festivals that were commonplace during the year. New Orleanians knew how to have fun. Any excuse to throw a party: that was the motto of most New Orleanians.
I never thought that disaster would come to New Orleans: it was a thriving, bustling metropolis that drew millions of people from around the world, and New Orleans had a certain charm that attracted people. Whether for business or pleasure, New Orleans could be counted on to satisfy people's dreams or fantasies.
On August 29, 2005, New Orleans, Louisiana (and the rest of the American Gulf Coastal region) was nearly destroyed by a storm of devastating power that would change her forever. A nasty girl named Katrina brought devastating winds, torrential rains of Biblical proportions, and destroyed thousands of lives, including mine. I ended up getting hurt (both legs busted, a busted pelvis, a broken arm, and numerous contusions and cuts), but nobody found me until a week later (only because rescuers heard weak moans enimating from beneath the rubble).
It was me.
I was flown to Tennessee in a Medi-Vac helicopter, and I was in the hospital for a good while. Two weeks, in fact. I spent a longer period of time in therapy; by November of 2005, I had healed, and I was soon ready to begin my new life. I was told I'd probably never walk again; I was determined to prove them wrong--and I did.
In December of 2005, I got a job at a Hummer dealership, where I fixed Hummers. It was owned by a guy named Frank, Frank Hammer. Thank God the dealership wasn't far from my apartment: I was able to walk to work (on crutches, yet!!). I walked in all kinds of weather: rain or shine, during snow or sleet, even when it was spittin' lightning out (though I'd get nervous during stormy weather; I was scared I'd get hit by a stray lightning bolt!).
My life seemed to be turning for the better for the first half of 2006, but in July, my life changed yet again. I was walking to work, just as I always did, when a car came out of nowhere and slammed into my back, instantly knocking me to the sidewalk. I knew immediately that I had been seriously hurt. I was aware of the unnerving sound of my back breaking, and a bolt of white-hot pain shot through me before I mercifully passed out.

I saw part three posted today and knew I would want to start from the beginning. Glad I have. This is going to be a very interesting story!
There's probably more fact than fiction in this story. After Katrina struck, my heart went out to the people of New Orleans. Her destructive power caused so much devastation. You, my friend have put a face, an identity and a heartwrenching story together, no doubt, reflecting lives of many.
This piece is emotionally gripping. I'm anxious to see how it ends.
Excellent read -
Though a sad and real life story, the descriptions of New Orleans and hurrucane descriptions jump out in vivid detail. I like this format much better then the one you were using and I will also be looking forward to the second half of this story.
Suspenseful and close to home, Rain of Deception 2 will leave you in Tears. Much like Part 1, this will shocking sequel will keep you on the edge of your fingertips.
