How do you start writing a book? Read a book! I started with Stephen King’s book, “On Writing”. Now if you are a King fan you’ll know this book was written after his horrible accident that nearly cost him his life. I mention that because the book is littered with King-like musings of the tragedy. On the other hand, it has a wealth of priceless knowledge on do’s and don’ts. A must read for any aspiring author. The next thing I had to do was get a good artist. One of my former bosses always bragged about his wife’s work and with good reason. Twila’s artwork is phenomenal and not just with oil or pencil. Twila has been known to make a 6 foot tall polar bear out of snow that has all the locals looking twice. The interesting part for the “Meesha” artwork was that she had never ‘seen’ or even thought about dragons. After I recovered from my shock, we discussed the golden dragon for the front cover of the book. She wanted feminine – it was supposed to represent Grandmother after all. I wanted powerful and bold – it was supposed to represent Grandmother after all. The day I saw the finish work I literally started crying. The gold dragon has all the beauty, strength and wisdom that embodies “Grandmother” whether mine, or yours.
