Dear Journal~
I am not at my very best today. Seems I got very little in the way of sleep the night before, thanks to storms traversing the area. We had more storms yesterday, including the threat of tornadoes. Thank God none materialized here in the Nashville metro area, but there were tornadoes to the east and south, and the tornado sirens kept sounding off.
The storms caused me to have vivid flashbacks to Hurricane Katrina's fury. It was like I was experiencing her all over again. (And it was just about as noisy!)
Thank God there were no reports of damage in Nashville, but my nerves are shot. I'm still shaking!! Lightning like you wouldn't believe: it was like it was set on strobe light speed (flashes every few seconds, it seemed), and the thunder was continuous. There was golfball- to softball- sized hail in parts of the city; it sounded like it was going to come through the roof at times! the sky was an ugly sea-green color, with roiling, undulating clouds that looked quite threatening. Scary, scary stuff!
It doesn't help seeing the damage from Alabama being broadcast on CNN: there was a tornado that hit a high school in Enterprise, Alabama; as many as fifteen or so people have been reported killed there. That does little to calm my shattered nerves!
This is Katrina Delchamps writing. I am doing okay--for the most part--, but I am doing as well as can be expected. I am about fully recovered from my last hospitalization/surgery, and my doctor has cleared me from his care; I don't have to see him until June or July! :)
I still have Frank Hammer in my life. He has returned back to his work; when he is at work, my next door neighbor, Phillis, stays with me, just in case I should run into any unexpected problems (which I haven't done as of late, thank goodness!).
We are getting ready to go on our Alaskan cruise in May. As you can imagine, both Frank and myself are very excited! We are getting married on the ship; Frank has invited his folks and his brother Hyman, and I have invited some of my friends from back home in New Orleans. We will be on this cruise for two glorious weeks. After that, we will be moving into our new home. We will be living in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Frank has gone to Alaska to find us a place to live; he has found a gorgeous A-frame house right in the middle of Fairbanks with a spectacular conifer forest right in our backyard and mountains surrounding the residence. I have seen pictures of the new house; it is absolutely breathtaking!
I don't know if I can handle the Alaskan cold: hear the cold is brutal there; it still makes me shiver violently when I think of the sub-freezing temperatures! (I have been reading in the paper of the cold there: the highs have been below 0, and the lows dipping to as much as -41 below!! BRRRRRR!! (Light up the fireplace, Frank! LOL)
It is going to be interesting, that is for damn sure!!
GAD all those people affected by Mother Nature's wrath: no wonder so many are having nightmares, Katrina Delchamps included. I hope the approaching severe weather season won't be as bad. An excellent story, well done!
Suspenseful and close to home, Rain of Deception 2 will leave you in Tears. Much like Part 1, this will shocking sequel will keep you on the edge of your fingertips.
