Louisiana tries to comfort young Rebekkah Cohen, who is grappling with some major life issues and is now having to live life as a quadriplegic after being shot.
All the while, she is dealing with her own pain: her son, Johnny, is lying in a hospital bed, in a coma, fighting for his life.

Dearest Rebekkah Rachel and Family~
I wish I knew what to say. I wish I knew how to take the pain you are currently feeling away. Yet I don't have any answers; I am hurting, too, along with the rest of your family.
I wish I could say that Johnny is asking about you, but he isn't right now. He is still in a light coma; he hasn't awakened yet. Doctors are still hopeful that he will wake up; it just hasn't happened yet. He is holding his own, his vital signs are stable, so that is good news. He doesn't have brain damage; his neurological signs are intact. He is going to be fine; don't you worry! We are believing for a miracle, and we are holding on to the Lord to get us through this.
How are you doing, sweetheart? I know you are having a tough time of it. You have every right to be angry over what has happened to you. I know; I have been there. When I was a child, I fell out of a tree, and I was paralyzed for a time; I know what being paralyzed is like. It's terrifying. You must be scared out of your wits. That is okay. That doesn't make you a bad person. You are just going through some very bad things, and you are having problems dealing with them.
I am writing this from the hospital. In fact, I am Johnny's nurse, so I spend a lot of time with him. He just had his vital signs checked (again), and the other nurses working with me are going to take out some of the tubes. Hopefully that'll get a rise out of him. *grins* He'll probably wonder why he is in the hospital, but I do plan on telling him, so he doesn't worry anymore.
Johnny is responding when the doctors or nurses call his name or do the pain stimulus tests on him, so that is good. He just hasn't fully awakened yet. It will take time; we just have to be hopeful.
Darling, I don't have any answers why this happened to you and Maddie, but it isn't your fault. Things sometimes happen when you least expect them, but with help and the right support, you can make it. I have made it through, plenty of times, my kids have made it, and so have many other people. You will make it too. I believe in you, and we are praying hard for your sake. You have made it this far, you just have to keep going!
Don't ever give up hope. Maybe one day you'll get your arms back to moving right; it is just going to take time (not to mention, lots of patience). No, it isn't easy, but then who said life was easy?? All you can do is lean on the Lord and ask for His help; He'll never abandon you; He'll always be at your side. He loves you still, and just because you are paralyzed, that doesn't make Him love you any less. Jesus loves you as much now as He always did.
Well, Dr. Arjuwahl and Dr. Ram want to talk with me again about Johnny, so I will go now. Hopefully it will continue to be good news. I will keep you informed; you'll be hearing from me again in the next few days or so. Until next time, hang in there, and know you are in our prayers! We love you, Rebekkah!

i must agree with Tinka, what Louie May deals with is beyond comprehension, yet she still writes to encourage those outside her family!! I sure enjoy each wite!!
Louisiana is one amazing person... put on this earth to succour those who the rest of us would be pretty useless with and about. To be able to offer such love and reassurance in the midst of her own traumas and pain is a gift and one which she freely shares. Her physical stamina and mental fortitude must be immense. To say nothing of the will-power and courage of those she ministers to, as well. Extra-special people all round, brought to us by an extra-special pen.
