I have been trying to be a better friend to Billy Bouchet, but he remains as silent as a stone. He doesn't have many friends, he doesn't have much hope.
I have been trying to get him to open up. He does, but it is only for a little while; it isn't long before he retreats back to his shell. He is like a turtle in that aspect.
I kinda' understand why Billy Bouchet is the way he is: he lost his parents, his family in Hurricane Katrina; lost everything he had. He moved to Tennessee to start life over, and now he lives with his grandparents. Yet the kids don't make it any easier for him by teasing him like they do. It's no wonder he has such a low opinion of himself.
I wish I could do something to help Billy feel better about himself. I wish there was a way to take away the painful memories of Hurricane Katrina, make the kids stop teasing him like they do. I am at a loss as to what to do.
All I CAN do is try to be a better friend, show him that I care, show him that I know what he is going through (I watched a lot of specials about Hurricane Katrina on tv), show him that I want to be a good friend. If he can acknowledge my presence or respond to my good intentions, that would be great; right now, though, he is still the same, silent boy I met over one year ago.
I hope life gets easier for him; he's already been through too much than any human being has a right to.
