I was sitting at the kitchen table, drinkin' my cup of java and reading the newspaper when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a flash of white.
Or at least I thought I did.
I looked out again. Sure enough, I saw it. That same flash of white. Something small, to the point of being tiny. Some kind of animal. Maybe it was a kitten, I surmised to myself.
That's when this white creature came up to the porch. I got a closer look. It was not a kitten at all: it was a squirrel. A squirrel that was unlike any squirrel I had ever seen. This little squirrel was totally white. Not grey, brown, or red, as most squirrels, but pure snow white.
I sat there, transfixed, as I marveled at the tiny creature. It was beautiful, something of a miracle. I had never seen such an animal in all my born days. The little creature came up to the door, sat up on his haunches, and stared in through the window at me with its beady black eyes. He was magnificent as squirrels can be. Most of the time I wouldn't have even bothered (squirrels were pests in my eyes, nothing but a nuisance), but this one seemed friendly enough, and he didn't even flinch when I stood up to get a better view.
It was incredible.
My kids soon joined me. I told them to walk quietly and to keep silent; I wanted them to see the marvel I was witnessing. At the sight of the white squirrel, they gasped softly, their eyes opening wide. They couldn't believe it either.
My wife strolled into the kitchen. She saw that we were huddled around the back door, she wondered what we were looking so intently at. When she saw the sight of that all white squirrel, she couldn't believe it either.
We must have looked at each other for a good ten/fifteen minutes, my family and that squirrel. We were sizing each other up. I swear that squirrel smiled when he saw the sea of startled faces. He gave a flick of his tail, went back down on all fours, and soon scampered off the porch, to places unknown, places that squirrels frequented.
The squirrel must have been here for only a brief time, but he left a deep, indelible impression on our hearts. We felt incredibly blessed to have been visited by this special Angel Visitor in the guise of an unusually-colored squirrel, and it was a good way to start a busy day in our household.
What a wonderful write dear friend, a very fitting tribute! I could just imagine Ed being transfixed with the beauty of the white squirrel. I've never seen a solid white squirrel, must be a beauty! W have a few white racoons, and someone saw a white deer all wonders and nature's beauties. Great story and picture, wonderful combination! Enjoyed this write very much!

I would be sitting there transfixed myself, peering at this white miracle! I think I've mentioned that we've had a jet black squirrel visitor, very rare in these parts - but I have never ever seen a pure white one - but I would surely love to!
And thanks for the dedication, and that marvelous picture, Karen!

Mission accomplished: showing the beauty and diversity of God's creation. Beautifully detailed encounter! Well done!
