Louisiana reaches out to a hurting friend and tries to give her some encouragement.

Dear Audrey, Rick, and Girls~
I was sorry to learn that Susie tried to kill herself by cutting her wrists and that she is in the hospital, in critical condition. Whatever possessed her to do such a thing? I can't understand it! If there is anything I can do, please don't hesitate to let me know, ASAP!
You have already been through so much; now this latest crisis is just one of a long line that you have experienced. I don't know how you go on! You must be a lot stronger than what people give you credit for!
I will be alerting Christ Community Assembly of God after I am done writing to you, put you guys back on the prayer chain, have our prayer warriors lift you up. Saturdays are prayer day at our church; we will be on our faces, crying out to God for a miracle for you and Susie!
Susie sounds like a troubled young lady; I am most concerned for her. When I last saw her, she was closed in her own world, she wouldn't talk to me, and when I tried to reach out to her, she pushed me away. It hurt me, but I tried not to let her know that. I know that there are agencies who can help emotionally-traumatized children like Susie, Lacey, and Maria, and I know that with the right therapy, the right people, the right doctors, the girls can emerge from their personal hell.
Mine did, I am sure yours can, too.
Well, I have some news to share with you. (Are you sitting down?? I think you ought to be!) I am almost two months pregnant. Yes, you read right. I am going to have a baby, after the fact that Bill and myself adopted sixty children! It was totally unexpected, but ever since I had my tied tubes reversed, we knew there'd be a chance of this happening. Well, it...happened. I have been suffering from morning sickness the past week, and Tuesday I found out the happy news. The baby will be due around Christmas time.
We don't know if it is a boy or a girl yet, but I am sure we will find out when the baby becomes more developed, or when I advance in my pregnancy. I will be seeing Dr. Cheeters (that's my gynecologist) every so often, just so she can monitor me, make sure everything is going well, not just with me, but the little one inside of me. Of course, as you can imagine, Bill and the children are wild with excitement. (So am I, to tell you the truth, but I will have to wait until I get over this darned morning sickness first!)
I went to ask you how the weather is there in California; I forgot for a minute that you now live here in Nashville, right by us! LOL (Boy, Louie, sometimes you don't have the good sense God gave a goose! LOL) In any event, I was hoping that the change in location would ease your troubles somewhat; doesn't look like that is happening, which is a crying shame. I will have to pray extra hard for you guys! You need a break from all these crises that keep striking your family!
As for us, we are doing as well as can be. Bill is still continuing with his recovery from his recent back surgery, and next week is his last week of therapy. He has been doing wonderful with that, and next week, he gets the back brace removed, which will be a huge relief for him (for all of us, really!). It's a good thing he didn't have to wear it during the hot part of the year; that would have probably driven him bat crazy!!
The kids are loving their new brother Bjorn Wilhem. He is such a cute little guy; he is learning to reach out to us, learning to get used to us, learning to navigate his way around. He is learning sign language, and he is able to do basic signs by signing in our hands, since he can't see us doing it; it's his way of communicating. He has some overwhelming handicaps, but we think he is going to make it. He is such a determined little boy, and he is in the right place being with us. We are his family now.
We fighured Bjorn would be the "Exclamation Point", the final child, in our family, but it looks like he will be a big brother in December. Another child on the way--and not by adoption, either! We are all still in a state of shock, but I think the kids will get over it, that they will learn to be a big help to me while I am in my "delicate state". (At least I HOPE they will! :) ) There will be 61 children in our family come Christmas time (maybe even 62, 63, or 64)! (Heaven forbid!!) The Sandusky family continues to grow by leaps and bounds!
I have alerted my friends in the adoption community; I am sure they are all abuzz with the news. The computer will be smoking for a while with all the e-mails that are sure to come! I will have to chain myself to the computer, the way things are looking now! LOL
Well, Audrey, again, if you need ANYTHING at all, please don't hesitate to let me know! You don't have to worry about upsetting me; I can take it (MOST of the time)! I'm stronger than you realize; I have to be with all these children! LOL God be with you during this difficult period in your life, and know that y'all are in my thoughts! I love you, Audrey!
(((HUGS))) As always, your friend (and now neighbor), Louie May. :(
I can't imagine why anyone would want to take their precious life. Boggles my mind. Still, there is good news about Louie...a miracle, I would say. Question is, how would the other children receive this new addition? I just gotta keep reading to find out! :)
Much love
Lena

Audrey has found a wonderful friend in Louie May! I bet she is happy to have such an upbeat person to ease her through her difficult time with Susie. I bet hearing about the new baby will be a REAL shocker....hmmmm........I wonder if the hints dropped mean there may be more than one little Sandusky added to the already 60 children. Guess we'll have to wait and see! Great write about friendship!
Keep up the good work!
I am so happy for Louie...pregnant is wonderful! TWINS??? What stands out for me in this letter is the fact that you have incorporated death and life so close together, one tries to take her life and another will give life to a newborn...if only Louie could talk to Susie and show her the life growing new inside of Louie, perhaps it would have an impact on Susie and her will to live...thanks for the letter today, Karen Lynn...Blessed Be.
Well this should be really something Louie having a baby. I never knew anyone could even dream of caring for that many children. another prolific and excellent story from your golden pen Karen!
Some times people get overwhelmed.. I pray Susie is doing better.. Lifes turmoils can really be hard to handle sometimes. At least Audrey remains strong....M
The subject of suicide especially in one so young is often hard to understand and accept but we must reach out to those just as this write demonstrates so well. good write my friend
