Louisiana writes in her journal. It's a slow morning at work, and she is about ready to clock out for the day. (She worked the night shift--AGAIN.)

Dear Journal~
I guess I can write in here before I head home for the day; my shift at work is nearly over. Another night shift. One of my nurses (Elaine Hoovler) didn't show; I had to cover her, so we'd have enough nurses. Darn nursing shortages, it's no wonder I've had to work so much lately! (May be good for the paycheck, but it's sure rough on the body! I'm not as young as I used to be!)
Now that I am pregnant, I really have to be careful; don't want to endanger the health of the foetus (okay, BABY!) growing inside of me. So many things can go wrong, especially during this early time; one more week, and I'll have hit the two month mark in my pregnancy. That means in seven more months I'll become a mama--if things don't go wrong, which they can do.
I'll just have to do some heavy-duty praying that God gets me through the first three months without incident, through the entire pregnancy in general. I won't rest easy until I am over the first trimester, which is often the riskiest period for pregnancy.
Well, it is a show one this morning. Patients doing well, no crises other than the one yesterday morning when a little boy came to the E.R. unconscious and bleeding from the mouth. Turns out that the little guy got hit once too often by his dad; a really sad situation. This isn't the first time he has been to our hospital. Now his dad is sitting in a jail cell and the little boy is fighting for his life in the Pediatric ICU.
It doesn't look good. It will take a miracle for him to pull through.
I worked PICU last night; very depressing to see the sick kids there, fighting for their lives. Some are doing well; others (like the abused little boy) are not. Time will only tell if they will make it through.
Last night, Ronee' called me before she went to bed, just as she always does when I'm working nights. She was excited: she watched her favorite show, "American Idol", and the one she wanted to win won (Jordin Sparks). She was so happy; this morning, when she went off to school, Bill said she was singing "A Moment Like This" by Kelly Clarkson. She seemed to be in a good mood, he said. That's good; there's nothing worse than seeing Ronee' (any of my kids, really) being sad or unhappy!
Johnny went to Rebekkah's last night, and he got some good news: the Cohens are moving to Nashville! That means we might soon be neighbors! It seems funny how friends are coming together in unexpected ways! Rebekkah had a good doctor's report, and Susie seems to be doing a little better; I guess she had a good talk with Louisa Mason into the wee hours of the morning. That's what Louisa told me, anyway. (She just called me. I told her I couldn't talk long; was at work when she called.)
Johnny had a wonderful time at Rebekkah's. They had Mexican food, and they spent the time talking, just enjoying each other's company. They are good for one another. When one is feeling bad, the other can help them, be there for the hurting person, be a friend when it is needed the most. He was in a good mood today, too, according to Bill, and he is glad "American Idol" is over. Johnny absolutely HATES that show!
Johnny had a good report at Dr. Ram's yesterday: no worse, but again, no better. I guess that's good news. I wish Dr. Ram could say he was doing better, but he didn't. Quite frustrating for him and for me. I guess I should be grateful he isn't getting worse; I should be thankful for that!
Ronee' has an upcoming audition on Wednesday of next week: the tv people from NBC's show "America's Got Talent" is coming to Nashville, looking for new talent for their show, and Ronee' is trying out. This is her second attempt. She tried out last year, and she got sick all over the stage.
She didn't make it, as you can probably already guess. She let her nerves get the best of her.
Maybe this year will be her year. She is determined to get past the demons, past her nerves, and she wants to make it to the show. She feels she has what it takes, and she has the determination, the drive, the will. She is talented, and if she doesn't make it, sure, we'll be disappointed, but that's the breaks of show biz.
Not all can make it or become stars. Show business is such a hard business to get into: too many broken hearts, broken dreams, broken hopes. Yet if I know my Ronee', she won't take no sitting down. She won't give up that easily; never has, never will. She has the determination to become a star in country music, and she has already rubbed elbows with the big stars of country music, performed at many festivals and venues, impressed many a person with her talents as a singer/musician.
Ronee' has been at this since she was four/five, and she still loves it. She loves the stage, and nothing makes her happier than entertaining people with her style of Cajun/country music that is hers--and hers alone. Ronee' has come a very long way in her abilities, and she is on the verge of becoming a star--that is, if she is given the chance. Maybe this upcoming audition will be the springboard she needs.
We can only hope, not only for her sake, but for ours. We are behind her in whatever she wants to do. Always have, always will be.
Well, I guess I will go now. Just looked at the time; time for me to clock out. Besides, my relief (Gloria Trainor) is here. I will write in here again another day. Take care, and God bless!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend, Louie May. :)
P.S.: Let's hope the kiddies will behave today. Yesterday they drove me crazy, especially Arjun and Emir. Emir was crying his head off; nothing I did or said to him could quiet him. By the time I was to leave for work yesterday, I had such a godawful headache. As for Arjun, he dumped the plants again; dirt all over the floor. I was not happy with him. I think I yelled a little bit too loudly at him; he scuttled away like a scared little bunny rabbit. I felt horrible when I heard his sobs, saw the big tears dripping from his large eyes, but at the time I didn't care. He'd made a mess, and I wanted to let him know that mamma wasn't happy with him.
I'm just glad I didn't get mad enough to want to hurt him. That is one of my worst fears: that I'll lose control, that I'll end up hurting one of the kids out of anger when they misbehave, that they'll end up like the little boy currently in the PICU. It's scary being a parent nowadays...Too easy to lose control. It's a job I love, but a job I wouldn't wish on anyone not able to handle children, particularly children like mine. Families with children who have special needs are more apt to lose control because the stress levels are much higher than those famillies who don't have handicapped children.
Not everyone is cut out to be a parent. This has been proven time and time again on the news; all too often, you hear of abuse cases. It seems like there's a new case every day on the news; it's enough to break your heart! I know it does mine. My heart goes out to those innocent victims of abuse; it shouldn't hurt to be a child, and no child deserves to be abused in any form! They need love, not violence in thrir lives!
What a realistic write my friend, emotions that of a pregnant lady, the reality of life with a large family, the responsibilities that come with pregnancy, and I really liked how she referred to her unborn child as a baby! I know at first it is hard to say it aloud, for fear that something may go wrong...we mothers to to protect our feelings and emotion, and not get emotionally attached until the dangerous time has passed in the pregnancy. As always enjoyed my friend!
Blessings,
Joyce B.
I agree whole heartedly with George, from the moment a child is conceived it is a baby not a fetus, this is a great write, I love the way you bring Louie to life
God Bless
Michelle~
I agree with George, it's a baby, not a foetus; it's a living human being of God's grand design! :)
As for the REST of the story: your writing grabs the reader and invites them to "come on in, sit down a spell." :) Friendly; folksy; one feels as if they are hearing Louisiana talk, not just reading...words.
Excellent! VERY well done, these just keep gettin' betternbetter!
That's not a fetus that's inside her but a living baby. The pro abortion gang came up with the term fetus to down play that it was a living child being formed in the womb and unfortunately the press picked it up and cramed it down eveyones throat except those that know better. Another great write and the nursing shortage is real and scary. We desperately need more people to go into this honorable and rewarding profession.
