Almost 200 years before Katrina ambushed New Orleans, a young man from France was starting a new life after a harrowing narrow escape from his home land and its bloody revolution.
A World Of His Own - In The Land Of The Creoles is an Historical fiction. It is set in New Orleans, in 1809 and covers an eight year period in the life of a young man.
Andre de Javon arrives in New Orleans determined to re-build his life. Every thing he had was lost in the French Revolution. Now he wants to build his own world where he knows he belongs. He is helped by an older man, Monsieur Charleviox whose young daughter Julie falls in love with Andre. She hopes Andre will wait for her to grow up and marry her, but Andre marries the beautiful, spoilt and self-serving Gabrielle Ste. Claire who makes his life miserable. Gabrielle dies leaving Andre with her illegitmate son (whom every one thinks is his). There are several famous people sprinkled throughout the story. People such a Jean Lafitte, Andrew Jackson, Nicholas Roosevelt and Henry Shreve.
Everyone who has read my book A WORLD OF HIS OWN - IN THE LAND OF THE CREOLES, tells me that they really enjoyed it, couldn't put it down and didn't want it to end. They loved learning about the Creole society, and also about Jean Lafitte, and Henry Shreve and how steamboats arrived in New Orleans. They loved learning about how a planatation was built and run back in 1809. Everyone has said they learned so much about that city in reading this book.
