Morphine plays tricks on our minds. Just as well. Sometimes the occasion is so solemn, we need a laugh!
ANDY’S LAST WORDS
Andy lay on his deathbed. Surrounding him were his family and friends at his Scottish home but his eyes were almost closed. He did not recognise them. Life was ebbing away. Friends came in to his home, through the kitchen, along the hall to his room, they all wished to send him away surrounded by love. His friends and family came to pay their last respects because Andy was a popular grandfather, father, friend and husband. He never ever said an evil word in his life. His life was as near perfect in everyone’s eyes.
"Is that you darling?" he asked of his wife.
"Yes, Andy, I’m here."
"Are the grandchildren here?"
A chorus of voices responded to his question.
"And are all my friends here, round my bed?"
"Yes, we are, more than twenty of us Andy. You are among friends. Yes, we are all here, in your room."
Andy paused at the solemnity of the occasion. The morphine was taking over his brain and his voice was shallow. But they all heard his last words.
"Then who the f**k left the kitchen lights on?"
