Dear Journal~
I know I just wrote in here last week, but I wanted to update you on Johnny. Johnny had his MRI scan and EMG done this past Friday (the 3rd). It was good news, but there are signs that his disease is progressing. Very upsetting, but at least it wasn't a dramatic change; still, it is something I'd rather not see happen. Johnny has been through so much in his nearly fifteen years on this earth!
Also, Ronee' is hobbling around on crutches again. She broke her foot. She has to use her crutches for six/eight weeks. She broke her foot while getting the mail before a thunderstorm blew in; she twisted her ankle, and she ended up having a stress fracture on her foot (the ankle bone). She isn't happy, as you can imagine, but at least she's not in as much pain/discomfort as she was when this first happened. It could have very easily been a lot worse, not only for Ronee', but for Johnny.
Yesterday, Arjun had to go to the emergency room when a bee stung him on the lip. He's going to be okay, thank the Lord, but he now has a fat lip: he looks like he went a few rounds with Muhammed Ali! He tried to kiss a bee; the bee got annoyed and nailed Arjun right on the lip. Guess that will teach Arjun not to go kissing any strange bees! LOL
We will be getting our new foster child in a few weeks (a week and a half, right after we get back from Louisiana). Bill and Michael have been working on getting the extra guest room ready, and we have gotten our new foster child new clothes and toys. That way he can be made to feel welcome once he does arrive. We are all looking forward to meeting/having Vincente with us; he looks to be a very beautiful little boy who happened to have a very rocky start in life.
Vincente was born early, then once released from the hospital, was subjected to phyical abuse at the hands of his mother. To add insult to injury, it was also discovered that Vincente was born brain damaged--and was later diagnosed as having cerebral palsy. He was immediately removed from the home and was placed into the foster care system once the abuse allegations surfaced.
Vincente has never been in a family environment; this is where we come in. We are to have him for several months; this way, he can get used to being with a family before being placed for adoption by another family that he can (hopefully) call his own, a family willing to give this sad, downtrodden, lonely little boy a home--and lots of love.
We know we will cry when Vincente leaves our family, yet we will also know that we tried to make a difference in his life and he will know what being with a family is all about. Hopefully there'll be a family who wants to adopt a child like Vincente.
Let's hope so.
Today has been busy: fifteen patients today in the MICU, including a woman who suffered a broken back at the hands of tornado-driven winds. She was slammed into a tree after a tornado hit her mobile home. She suffered a ruptured spleen (removed in surgery) and broken ribs; she may be paralyzed for the rest of her life. She's doing okay--not great, but certainly not on her way to checking out either. She is in the MICU, being closely monitored. She did give us a fright the other day: she nearly died after being given some morphine. She is highly allergic to morphine. Her heart nearly stopped, she suffered from severe dyspnea (breathing difficulties), her blood pressure plummeted to zero, and she had hives: a classic anaphylactic shock reaction. Once that was taken care of, she has since been holding her own, thank goodness.
Well, I am going to go, going to fire off a quick letter to Sari, my friend in Finland, then make something to eat for the gang before they starve halfway to death. *grins* Not really, but I don't want a whole herd of children (or a hungry husband) clamoring about me while I am trying to get the food on the table!
