Ronee' is lamenting the fact that she has broken her foot in a fall. She has to spend the next six to eight weeks using her crutches again.

August 8, 2007, 10:06 a.m., D.S.T.~

Dear Journal~

I had been enjoying a health crisis-free summer--that was, until last week (a week ago today). I broke my damn foot; it really hurts!

I went to get the mail; I was doing it quickly because a thunderstorm was moving in, and I stepped in a hole. Down I went. As I did, I heard this loud >snap!<, then felt instant, white-hot pain coarsing through my foot. When I tried to get back up, I found I couldn't stand: I'd fall back down to the ground. I knew I did something bad to my foot. That's when I started screaming for maman.

I did this one week ago. I went to the emergency room; I had x-rays, but my foot was so swollen they couldn't get a clear picture on the x-rays. Therefore, I was told to go home, come back several days later, after I was to spend it in bed, or on the couch, with my foot elevated (so the edema could go down). Hopefully once the swelling went down and I had the x-rays again, the problem would then be revealed.

Well, the x-rays confirmed that I did break my foot. In fact, I broke the ankle bone. I got my foot casted, then was told by Dr. Fung to use my crutches after I got home. I am to use the crutches for the next six-eight weeks. SIX WEEKS!! YUCK!!

GREAT. Just what I did not want to hear. That means when I start school in a few weeks, I'll be on the crutches. More unwanted attention on my situation when I am trying to have people overlook my disabilities, when all I want is to be treated like a normal person. Talk about a bad "break"!! (And it was!)

Well, Johnny was supposed to go to his muscular dystrophy camp this week, but he can't go because we're leaving for Louisiana on Wednesday (tomorrow morning; we're leaving early, early). We are going to a wedding: our sister Dwerlina is getting married on Saturday. Then we are staying an extra week because the following weekend is LeCajun, which is a huge Cajun music festival they have every year at Blackham Coliseum, in Lafayette. It's always a blast; I enjoy the music, and I enjoy dancing to it, too! :) (But I'm afraid I won't be dancing this year, dang it!! Stupid me, stupid hole!! GRRR!!)

Johnny and Rebekkah nearly broke up, and I think he and Rebekkah got things worked out. They are talking to one another again, IM'ing each other. I think it's coz Susie is jealous of Johnny; I don't know, but Susie Callaway is one jealous gal; I really don't trust her! I want to be friends with her, but not if she does it at the expense of hurting others! That's not very nice!

Because of my foot injury, I'm not going to Camp Steppingstone. This will be the first time I will have missed arthritis camp since I started going there. Nicole is gonna' have to go at it alone this year. I'm not looking forward to missing camp; I'm gonna' be sooo bored come camp week because I won't be there. Booo, hissssss!!

Ever since I got back from Las Vegas, Nevada, I've been getting lots of e-mails from my fans. Most were sorry I didn't advance; they gave me lots of congratulatory wishes and tons of encouraging messages. Some even said I'd be a big star one of these days; that really made me feel good! It's nice to know that there are people who believe in what I do; that's what really makes being a performer cool! :)

Well, my foot is hurting again, walked on it a little too much yesterday; it's realllly talkin'! Went to the circus; had a marvelous time; saw a lot of exciting acts and got to meet some of 'em, too! They were really nice! (I knew I should have used my wheelchair yesterday at the circus! Dumb, dumb me; now I'm payin' for it! Call me "Little Miss Independent"--yep, da's me! All over!!)

Bye for now; gotta' take one of my pain pills, then rest my footsie before we go to Louisiana tomorrow, so my foot can stop yowlin' in pain. *OW!*

~Luv, your gal pal, Ronee' Le-Anne Reaux ("Little Miss Graceful of 2007"--NOT!!). :D

A great write, very realistic...a bad situation as well. Sent memories flooding back in of my broken foot two years ago, only in July, man what a summer! A painful injury, not really due to arthritis but being careless...I stepped off the porch step and missed the step and down I went, well you know the rest of the story...but anyway this was a good one my friend! Enjoyed!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Breaking a foot and sent home is bad. They should have bound it to a splint at least. Great journal entry. Victor

Bummer, Ronee'! At least you broke your foot at the end of the summer...could have been worse to have been on crutches your whole summer. Anyway, enjoy Dwerlina's wedding...catch the bouquet! Enjoy the Cajun festival and eat lots! Thanks for the letter today Karen Lynn...

Enjoy that Cajun Festival, Ronee; wish I could go! And dancing with a Crutch isn't as good as dancing without one, but it can be done!
