     The Dance Of Love

Quietly I sit here at the end of the bar. I slowly swirl the amber liquid in my glass against the ice. Sipping tiny sips as thoughts of you tumble through my mind. I remember when we were so in love we spent every spare moment together. I can taste your lips on mine and feel your strong warm hands on my back drawing me ever closer. I glow remembering your touch.

I don’t remember when things began to change. You stopped hurrying home from work you said you had too much to do and had to try to catch up. You hurry to the phone when it rings and then make some excuse about going back to the office. I didn’t tell you I found the number to this bar and the frightening words, 9:00 o’clock. It is now 8:30 and I am drinking this glass of courage. I need it if I am to stay here in the corner of this bar waiting. As the hands creep closer to the dreaded time my hands are sweating and I can feel my heart beat in my ears. Do I want to stay and face this or should I run out the door and never know?

My eyes scan the tables. There, a few feet away is a beautiful blond. She wears a short red dress and her long curls skim the tops of her curvy breasts. She is smoking a cigarette and drinking some wine. She keeps sneaking peeks at her watch and watching the door. Is it her?

Over by the door anxiously pacing is a tiny redhead. Her hair is fashionably spiked and she is dressed in jeans, a sweater and some boots. Suddenly a tall handsome man in a cowboy hat joins her at the door and they walk arm and arm out the door.

A lot of noise is coming from the room beside the bar. Smoke pours from the open door and I decide to move closer to see what is going on. Men in suits sit around a table smoking cigars and drinking beer and shots. Money seems to be carelessly tossed around. It looks like a poker game is about to begin.

I go back to my corner and see the clock make its last move to the hour. I watch the door, it opens, my heart breaks as you enter behind a gorgeous brunette in a short black dress and spike heels. She turns and walks to the back of the bar and grabs a tray and an order pad. She enters the back room calling hello to all of the men inside.

You continue walking toward my end of the bar and the blond. She sits cooly and with one last swallow and glance at her watch gets up and walks toward you. She walks right by and out the door.

There you are you continue to the bar and order a drink. The bartender brings me a fresh one and you turn and lift your glass in a toast. You reach into your coat and pull out a single yellow rose. You walk to me and hand me the rose as you bend to gently kiss my lips.

You explain to me that you deliberately left the number and the time where I could find them. You were hoping we would meet here just like this. You were feeling like you too needed a bit of romance and decided this would be the way to do it. You slowly led me to the floor you took me in your arms and slowly danced the dance of love.
